This team looks to have many of the same problems as last year's squad. The Pacific Division sucks and that's why the Kings are in 2nd place right now.

Dean and/or the "best players" on this team have a lot of work to do if they are going to truly be contenders this season. This should be a win tonight.

They're 2nd in the Pacific because they're 3-4 against the Pacific, with all 4 losses at home.

Ah. Reminds me about that parable about the frog and the scorpion.

Jordan Nolan-Scorpion approached Daryl Sutter-Frog and said, "Coach, I'm a scorpion and cannot swim, and there are only a few minutes left in regulation. I need you to carry me across the river and put me in the game." Daryl Sutter-Frog said, "If I carry you across the river to put you in the game, you will take a stupid offensive-zone penalty and surely we will drown." Jordan Nolan-Scorpion replied, "Why would I do that, we would both drown and the team will likely lose?"

Daryl Sutter-Frog relented and put Jordan Nolan-Scorpion on his shoulders and began swimming across the river. Half way across, Jordan Nolan-Scorpion punched Daryl Sutter-Frog in the back of the head and earned a needless two-minute minor penalty. "Why did you do that, we will now both die and lose the game?" gasped Daryl Sutter-Frog, as he slipped beneath the water. "It's your fault for putting me in the lineup," answered Jordan Nolan-Frog. "It's in my nature."

Thanks I missed most of the game.

I wouldn't say you 'missed' it.

I wouldn't go that far, i mean, we've already surpassed our SO/OT record from last year, for example

but as far as losing games we shouldn't, I'm hoping the last two were the aberration rather than the trend. I agree we need a few more guys to start stepping up though I am seeing some definite encouraging signs.

Yo, Kings. Can we please beat this team that we should beat tonight? Please??? I'm tired of losing to bad teams and watching you scramble all over the ice and shoot high and wide and take endless dumb and selfish penalties. It's not in my nature to tap out and stop watching your games, so please grant me a Thanksgiving wish and easily win this one.

Also, no 4th line in the dying minutes of the game when we're down by 1 and have the goalie pulled, Sutter. I mean, wtf do you think will happen? Also no Lewis and Brown on the ice at the same time when we need a goal and have the goalie pulled. We need goals, not somebody to hit the netting above the goal, or whiff on the puck and fall over. Thanks.

Except Florida really isn't that bad a team; they just can't seem to finish their games.

The win was supposed to come yesterday. I still think we can beat a banged-up Tampa team on Wednesday, but tonight might be a real drag.

There aren't too many games, not in this years NHL, that the Kings 'lose ' that they shouldn't. There are few, if any, gimme games. And they haven't won many games decisively, rather the slim one goal type and hanging on, rather than taking a 3-1 lead into the 3rd after controlling the majority of the game and locking it down.
I've watched every game and I don't think the last 2 were an aberration or a trend.
They played , the other team was better, got the lead and held it. Period. It will come down to that, and Florida like many teams, play well enough on any given night to beat any team, including the Kings.
They are for the most part, winning far too many games the same way they did last year, leaning heavily on JQ, with DD and the Carter line, on most nights, not all, providing the offense.
And they are a quarter of the way in and lucky to be in the weak sister div of the conference. The road isn't going to be easy, this is the Kings, this is how they have played and will play.
I am hoping Mersch gets here sooner than later, because they could use his energy and skill set. But I don't see that happening too quick as Sutter doesn't trust youth, he'd rather continue to throw Lewis, Clifford, Nolan and company out there. To him, carrying 3 rookies now, is a huge sacrifice.
And if they are hovering at or below the 3rd place mark in Feb, DL will pull the trigger, and another 1st might go by the wayside.

I think you're right. I'm not in a hurry for Mersch to get here since I don't see him as a savior this season, good as he is. Nick Shore's offense went somewhere to die in the transition from AHL to NHL, Weal we don't know since he's played a total of 23 minutes, 6 seconds in 3 games out of a total possible 20 games. As you said, If Sutter does play Mersch, he'll probably be tossed a few minutes, all with the 4th line.

As for the 1st, the next one we'll have is in 2017. (waves to Carolina fans)

ETA: Jewels from the Crown has a good article: How Does Darryl Sutter Use Young Players? (AKA "Free Jordan Weal, pt. 1")

I'm not at all trying to suggest the Kings are such a good team that they're unstoppable. Just pointing out the reality of how often the Kings have lost to teams FAR below them in the standings, whatever the reason. That goes back to last year and reminds some posters of last year's team, hence my comment. Sick of trying to figure out 'why', just want that part fixed to some degree, as though it's encouraging beating the teams at the top of the standings and that's the bigger deal if you can make the playoffs, coughing up points to other teams makes us NOT make the playoffs, and that's bad. But yes, every game is likely going to be skin-of-our-teeth because that's just how our system rolls.

I guess the NHL is okay with having a representing team resemble a minor league operation. The number of empty seats there is ridiculous and unacceptable.

The reason the Kings are 2nd in the division is that the Ducks have been a **** show, and the Canucks, Oilers, Coyotes, and Flames just aren't that good and lose a ton of games against the rest of the NHL.

Yet have been fantastic mostly on the road against the best division in the league.

Panthers with 2 prime scoring chances, of course 71 and 13 on the ice for the Kings, huge shock. At this point it's a win when they can chip the puck into the other teams zone.

And yeah, Florida guys mentioned it and it's true, Toffoli just gets an extra gear when he sniffs out a scoring chance. Kind of like how Jerry Rice wasn't the fastest guy until he was about to score then he broke away.
