Difficult to say. Without McDavid we probably have Eichel. Virtually impossible to imagine what the team would look like sans-McDavid even 4 or 5 years down the line, let alone 10.

I've never seen such a talented team in hockey have such brittle confidence.

They've played thousands of hours of hockey at the very highest level. No coach is suddenly going to provide some insight into the sport they haven't heard before.
