I was staring at Andersen's shaft and kept wondering why it had so little girth.

Lots of guys in his position put tape around the knob. How many times do you see pucks batted away from the goal by a girthy shaft with lots of tape on it. Lindholm used to have a lot of problems with girthy shafts. He couldn't put his in and was always getting his attempts knocked into the corner.

Read them, they're great fun for adults too. The movies have a lot of issues and you will be quite confused at many points if you haven't read the books. Think of them as illustrations for the book rather than a standalone.
