Great effort to come back. Their compete level is at least more consistent than last season. That was a game that could’ve easily got away from them. They aren’t the worst team in the league right now and have room to grow with the kids getting more valuable experience. Keep Smith with Celebrini. It’s the best he looked all year.

If Vanecek is injured, put him on IR now and call up Askarov. Give him this week where you start him Monday and Thursday. If Vanecek is ready, he’s got a week to recover.

Well, at least I called OT!

Glad we lost the shootout. Would be nice to see Smith or Celly bury one but would rather give PIT the point. Could matter down the road. I'd like to see our wins come in trap games vs top teams, please.

The Celebrini Smith connection looks solid, but it is an adventure, and does kind of bork up the line options otherwise. I'm sure mack is getting antsy with a 4? game pointless streak, but the points will come. He's getting he's feet under him still.

Great effort. This team is definitely much more competitive. 1-2-1 would have been acceptable after going down 0-3. Credit them for deciding they had more to give.

Blackwood was excellent, the kids looked good, Lund line looked good, good to have Walman back, and Tofolli line performed well. Team definitely needs one more top 6 forward, but they look like they almost have four competent lines.

Definitely game for Rutta to come out for Thompson.
I mean, I’m at the point where Ferraro looks worse than Rutta.
Ferraro has made every Dman he has been paired with this season look bad.

How Warsofsky can be looking to put Walman back in the lineup and take out Thompson shows his evaluation of his players is extremely poor.

Another game, another stat card showing how awful Ferraro is.

But he’ll keep being gifted games and receive absolutely zero criticism from the Sharks beat reporters.
Until they think Mukhamadullin or Cagnoni are ready, Ferraro isn’t going anywhere. His extra year while playing this bad means we’re stuck with him. Only way that changes is if they play him. Thompson should be in the lineup over Rutta despite his good game card today.

New slogan: piss poor play doesn't mean shit if you bring leadership, energy, and grit...heh

In all seriousness though, good to see yet another comeback in a game that they 100% would've lost 5-1 last year. Blackwood was awesome again, and I like the Celebrini-Smith combination although it'd be nice if the third guy on that line wasn't a black hole offensively like Goodrow. Dellandrea had a good game today, so it'd be nice if Goodrow and Dellandrea got flipped (assuming Warso wants Wennberg-Toffoli anchoring the third line).

I think we have a big enough sample size to say that Ferraro was the problem on the Ferraro-Rutta pairing. Obviously Rutta is not very good but I think he's a passable #6. He was pretty solid with Mukhamadullin last year in those three games, I'd like to see it again.

And his best results have unsurprisingly come while paired with Thompson and Walman (limited sample size), so if you pair Rutta with a puck mover, he's a passable defenseman.

Why in the world is Goodrow on PP1??
Because we don't have 10 good offensive players on our squad.

Man, the number of times a Sharks player has gained the zone cleanly and looked back and had absolutely zero support in this game is infuriating. How does that keep happening??
Cause we wear ourselves out in our own zone and are constantly needing line changes

Interesting to see individual offense is a positive for Liljegren, but team offense is a negative. Visibly, he was very involved and active offensively, and this kind of shows the limitation of the team portion of the player cards. They're obviously still useful as a one game summary though.

Love seeing Walman pick right up where he left off. He probably has a case for team MVP thus far.

I'm so glad we suck in the shootout, always lame to get extra points in a useless skills contest.

I love the positive spin, but I kinda want them to pick up points at least for a little while. I want the players to believe, for as long as possible, that they can sneak into the playoffs if they go on a run.

The mad lad Warso actually put Smith and Celebrini together, apparently. How did they look?

There was a shift that was a real glimpse into the future, where they hemmed the Pens in their zone and had like 4 beautiful/insane passes to each other all over the ice. That was a real “holy shit” kind of shift.

The rest wasn’t bad, sometimes they’d get stuck in their zone and sometimes they’d try and hit each other only to turn it over, but I think Smith probably looked his best with Celebrini. Much more confidence. They were fun to watch.

Makes sense. Two immensely skilled players together. Must have been fun for both of them. I only watched the highlights which included a pass from Smith to Celebrini to the front of the goal through a maze of players and I was amazed.

Has there ever been a player who was so universally condemned like Ferraro? The eye test, the counting stats, and the advanced stats all paint a horrific picture. The fanbase has turned on him...

And here I was thinking he's a future captain a couple of years back.

Still could be. You never know. Character. Leadership. High energy. However, the energy efficiency coefficient is very low.

If by universally you mean exclusively fans on here?

He has never been criticised by sharks commentary team, beat reporters, or coaches. He is the most protected player in the league. As a result, casual fans still absolutely love him because he “tries hard”.

Sharks are probably protecting him so they can try to sell the illusion to other NHL teams that he is still a value player for a team. Also he's paid relatively high salary.

I have no other idea why Ferraro is so protected and never scratched with such a poor play. I hope management has noticed this.. otherwise I would be seriously worried about our player evaluation.

Put Toff W/ Celly, Smith. Lund line stays together. Wenn centers 3rd line W/Delly & Grund/?. Kunin, Goody, Sturm line 4

A little worried that the line will have a very hard time in the defensive zone. Celebrini is responsible but he’s still learning and Smith and Toffoli aren’t exactly the fastest/most defensively responsible.
