Bouchard is a joke and always will be. Never should have been a 1st round pick.

wow wow wow

Lets not be hasty
He is still a great prospect, and everyone knew he was garbage defensively before the draft, so this shouldn't be a surprise.
Let's chalk this up to simply a really embarrassing play

But he is still a really good prospect

4 junior games have shown he can’t produce against teams that aren’t bottom feeder OHL teams. He was like a 26 year old man against 15 year olds. One of the worst scouting mistakes of the decade.

Scorching take.

How many years have you been watching the world juniors? Genuine question, drawing conclusions like that from a short tournament like this is silly.

IIHF stats are for ice time of the bottom 3 guys. VELENO - 6:58, LAFRENIERE - 7:18 and STUDNICKA - 8:40

Did Canada's goal differential help them afterall?!

They should have never f**ing run up tbe score like that against Denmark.

What an embarrassment!!!!
Connection between the Denmark game and this one?
Oh, I see, if they'd stopped at 13 against Denmark they would have had that spare goal available tonight

If he wants to be more than Shattenkirk 2.0, he better improve his defensive game significantly. Right now he should be a PP specialist and bottom pairing because he is a liability in his own zone.

He's not a bust by any means, but he does seem overrated based on how Oilers fans were talking him up...how he wasn't available for almost anything. cost controlled, etc.

His upside is ultimately a 2nd pairing, sheltered defenseman that logs a ton of PP time. His skating issues and lackadaisical defensive efforts prevent him from much more. If a Shattenkirk type is an untouchable, then that's a problem.

Lol, I bet he would be happy to become Shattenkirk 2.0. Because Shatty is a good NHLer.

I’ve watched him all through his year in the OHL last year and was praying my team wouldn’t take him in the draft. He won’t be in the NHL in 3 years, remind me.

Hunter doesn't appear to be a very good coach. I'll take it back if he gets Canada organized for when the games matter, but they do look quite sloppy
Sweden looks pretty organized
US, Canada even Russia are pretty scattered at times

You’d think it was kids playing or something!
I think the rest of the tourney will be chaos, in a fun way

Do the hyperbolic posters realize that their vitriolic character assasinations of the defensive scape goat not drafted by the NHL team they cheer for won’t make it to the coaches and won’t change reality and just makes them look insecure?

These are teenagers. Most haven’t played with their teammates in this sort of pressure packed environment. They will make mistakes. This tourney isn’t a referendum on any one player’s NHL future. I don’t root for EDM but the ugly posts about Bouchard are embarrassing. Same for some posts about Comtois and a few of the other defenders. Someday these posters will grow up and they won’t be proud of what they’ve written.

Finally got a small taste of competition and didn’t end in Canada’s favour.
Regroup, learn from mistakes and make adjustments.

Then Win Gold

As Red wings fan I like to see Veleno not on the 4th line playing less than 7 minutes, better he stays in juniors

Holy hot take.

Bouchard also saved a goal. He did make a couple costly defensive errors, but he totally should have been a first round pick. As the Oilers, there is nobody else I would have taken instead of him.

And the team is not feeding him well on the point.
BTW, did you see how many good zone entries Bouchard made? Or how many times he held the point where most other defensemen couldn't?
Honestly, lay off the 19 year old kid.

Bouchard is a good prospect. The only thing that I was hoping for was him being a better threat offensively.
It still comes down to this team being a short-lived collection of players.
Look at Quinn Hughes on USA. Tons of talent, yet he made a bunch of gaffes too.
This tournament is just a step in the journey for these guys. Professional scouts take notes but they don't get bent out of shape about things not clicking that would be in a stable environment.
