ST. LOUIS — No thinking, just shooting.

That was David Pastrnak’s strategy Tuesday night.

Boston’s leading scorer capped a wild, three-goal third-period comeback as the Bruins slapped a 3-2 loss on the Blues at a deflated Enterprise Center.

Pastrnak drilled a one-timer off a Charlie McAvoy relay past Jordan Binnington with just 1:47 remaining to secure the 2 points.

Bruins return Morgan Geekie to a line with Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak and it pays off

“What a crazy shift that was. There were a couple looks we had, and obviously McAvoy and Mason [Lohrei] were doing their thing and kind of buzzing around and they kind of collapsed on the puck, it bounced to Pav [Pavel Zacha], I think he kicked it to [McAvoy], and it came over to me,” said Pastrnak, before breaking into laughter. “And I just shot it as hard as I could.”

Binnington bent over as if he had squeezed it, but it was by him.

It was the game-high 10th shot of the night and team-high seventh goal of the season for Pastrnak, who led all forwards with 24:29 of ice time.

“They scored a couple of nice power-play goals in the second and we fell behind,” said coach Jim Montgomery. “But we talked about staying with it for 60 minutes and playing the right way. And even though we made a couple of mistakes in the third still — because you’re going to make mistakes, it’s a game of mistakes — we just kept battling. We kept playing the right way. We got to the goal line, and we got some greasy goals.”

The Bruins evened things with a pair of goals set up by their leaders.

First, it was Pastrnak.

The crafty winger stole the puck and blitzed into the St. Louis end. He waited patiently and then sifted a pass over to Morgan Geekie, who beat Binnington under the right pad with a one-timer at 4:53 for his first of the season.

“It’s always nice to get the first one, especially just coming back into the lineup,” said Geekie. “So, it’s good. It helps a lot. It’s good mentally.”

The Bruins came out with renewed spirit in the third and finally cracked the Binnington mystery. Meanwhile, Swayman (20 saves) was keeping the Blues from extending their lead.

“You can really build off these things,” said McAvoy. “You’ve got to do the right things moving forward. But there’s a couple times throughout a year where you win a game like this or something like this happens, you come back and find a way like we did tonight, and you can really build off those.

“So, you’ve got to earn them. And we did tonight, and we’ve got to do the right things moving forward. But this could definitely spark something.”
Thanks, Pastrnsk playing 24:29 is eye opening.

one part is soooo frustrating.

Hampus was a stud when he first arrived.
Then he broke his foot and continued to play on it, probably, for too long.
Last season he was not great and I suspect the broken foot healing played a part in his skating.
This season I think he has shown more of that first season attack and speed.
Last night, takes a shot off the foot and leaves the game.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
He took it on knee

Remember after 12 games one year Andy Brickley had 21 points and was nesr top of league leaders
Brickley had an injury riddled stint with Boston. I remember the back to back games in Nov '89 starting with the Ludwig fell down game and a huge comeback against NJ.
He set Neely up to tie the Montreal game late in the 3rd. The next game was a Saturday night against his former team and scored 3G in the 3rd with an assist.lol

That had to be the year you referenced, as he had 40 points in 43 games. He injured his groin in that NJ game. Never an even average skater but had fantastic hockey IQ and very good hands. He also had "dead weight" that made him very difficult to knock off the puck.

Watched Brickley and his Melrose HS team play my nephews Burlington HS team
4 times in 77-78\78-79. He was really noticeable his Senior year. Never beat my nephews team in those 4 games.

He ended up playing at UNH with two of my nephews teammates (Matt Shramek Bobby Harris). He may have been recruited as a baseball player at UNH.

Absolutely Brazeau can be a beast when he puts his mind to it. My
fear is that he isn't appreciated and gets let go at the end of the season or
even traded and becomes a MONSTER power forward.
I know it's a little late in his developmental stage at 26 but maybe
this is where it clicks for him, where he "gets it, feels it!"
He's a guy I don't want them to give up on because IMO
I take him 9/10 over a guy like Freddy.
Freddy can be a beast too and he knows it he just doesn't
seem to want it each and every game.
To me he just does so many small things.
That bank pass to Marchy early in the game, think it sprung a 2 on 1? Lindholm shot the puck over the net.
Strong on pucks.
His assist on the McAvoy goal.
Had a few power forward moves almost splitting the D.

Get him on PP1 cleaning up the mess. Guys a keeper.

Bad night to go to bed at the end of the 2nd period haha
It was. But to be fair, it's the first time all season where one has gone to bed and the outcome was different than what was expected. :) They not only played a whole game but stepped it up in the 3rd. It was actually entertaining to watch. I want my $110 worth of games to be entertaining LOL

Completely agree with getting him on PP1. What they're doing isn't working, this guy loves the front of the net, park him there and you have added another weapon for them to deal with.

This season has been weird so far. Frustrating uninspired play for the most part with occasional outbursts of good hockey. Here we are in mid-November in 3rd place, and only 2 points behind the Leafs for 2nd. It doesn't feel like they should be that high in the standings but I'll take it. Rope-a-dope the Blues for 2 periods then come out like a different team for 20 minutes and grab the win was probably the strangest game yet. I can't figure this team out. It's like they're bipolar.

Marchand was a beast in the 3rd. he Needs to bring this game consistently

I think it's a lot to ask at his age for 82 games. Bruins really need a talent to slot in between the large gap between Pastrnak and Marchand or at least to find someone at the Marchand level to be a real contender. Obviously, easier said than done. The rest of the lineup should be good enough if Monty (or someone else) can get their heads out of their ass.

Looks like I picked the wrong night to go to bed instead of struggling to stay awake.

You're welcome ;)
If I wasn't retired, I might not have watched the third period either because they looked frustrated and defeated after the 2nd, and I thought they were toast

..but Pasta came out on fire in the third, and woke up the whole team with his energy ...which was very good to see for a change. The stars HAVE TO LEAD.

Maybe they can build something off of this comeback, and Dallas will be a very good test tomorrow night
