Fun game that the guys were able to salvage a point out of.

I think Smith is making some pretty good improvements to his game every time he’s out there. I noticed he came back and helped clean up the d zone a few times today, while having a few good looks in the offensive zone.

I, for one, am shocked that Smith isn’t dominating. I mean, sure his line mates are allergic to holding onto the puck or catching passes, but surely he can just do it on his own right?

My highlights were the Goodrow goal even though he was extremely slow out of the corner and was out of position and purely benefited from a deflection, and Eklund leading the team back into the game with his lazy play.

The Sharks desperately need to try someone else on the first line Dellandrea is not it. I want them to do Eklund there and then slot Smith on the Granlund line but if they don’t want to break the Lund line up, you gotta try Smith with Celebrini. Sadly I think Warso is going to go with Dellandrea/Kunin/Goodrow on that first line
Just wanted to point out that one of my kittens--the torbie, not the orange and white one--walked up to my computer and put her paw on your avatar in a very friendly way. Maybe it just reminded her of her sister

I genuinely think he will, I think he’s going to start figuring it out fast and start scoring in bunches.
Even if he doesn’t, someone winning the Calder from the sharks means very little. If anything it probably costs us in the draft lotto. Rather he win 5 harts down the road.

Defnitely a lot of woe is me around this parts for a team that is 6 points better than they were at this point last season and with a prospect pool that looks a lot more exciting than it did last year. Its a little strange cause it felt that everyone agreed that we were going into this season as well as firm favourites for the best lottery odds again.
In all fairness my own woe is me gripes came before they ripped off a 5-1-1 (I think) stretch.

I personally puke over the shootout. I’ve never liked the idea of deciding a team game with a highlight thing by one player. I don’t know how others feel but I don’t like it.
It's far better than ending in a tie. It isn't ideal, but ending a game in a tie is also stupid (which is why I'll never be a fan of a sport like soccer).

The NHLPA isn't going to allow their players to play longer OT periods so the shootout is the far lesser of the two evils that come after that.

Particularly because a 3-0 deficit on the second half of a back to back last year undoubtedly ends in a 6-1 loss as opposed to a 4-3 SO loss. The hockey is flat out better right now and Celebrini looks like the best player on the ice every shift he's out there as an 18 year old.

Still work to be done, but the future looks bright if we are able to hit on another 2-3 draft picks. I am drawing parallels to NJD's rebuild that began with Zacha at 6th overall in 2015 with our 2021 7th overall pick of Eklund. Took NJD 4 more drafts to get their superstar 1C in Hughes, and then took 4 more years from there to make the playoffs for the first time.

If we look at it from that lens, we're tracking nicely, though that doesn't mean that there still is not plenty of work to be done and luck to be had to make this a success.

Goody coming out of the corner slowly is what put him in position to score the goal. He benefited from the deflection and so did our team. That tied up the game and gave us a point.

I think a big key is also tanking at the right time, and some of that is luck. The Sharks tanking the year Celebrini was a surefire #1C at the top of the draft worked out really nicely. Imagine if they bottomed out this year instead where you have a few very solid prospects at the top of the draft and no Celebrini level prospects.
For the bold an italics section, I guess you think James Hagens is just some plug consolation prize?

Those 22 points in 7 games at his D-1 u18 WJC was just Schmuck stats, eh? The 15 in 7 Macklin dropped the year prior were just vastly more impressive or the quality of competition changed that much in 1 year?

In regards to all of the bold, this is a pretty good season to be bad and take a forward. It is early, but I would say I have a solid top 9 forwards I think have some degree of star potentiaI so far, 2 I would say I'm higher than 65% on becoming stars. Hagens is the king and Martone is in the kings court.

Oddly, I personally am really high on William Eklund's brother Viktor too. I doubt that opinion is as universally shared, but so far I love the way he plays so currently he is 3rd for me, but I doubt he is drafted there.

The players I rank 4&5 are probably 3&4. Fourth is Misa and he probably goes 3, a true sniper, I'm not sold on his play making. McQueen requires more film, the skillset should be a lock for top 3, but I need to see more from him. I think both have really great star potential.

Desnoyer. I really like his game so far. Good IQ from what I've seen, I think his biggest draw back is speed, but I need to see a few more games before I rank him any higher.

Frondell - Big, Physical, center. I think he goes high, I am not sure I like him that high, but there is a chance he ends up a variation of Landeskog

Ryabkin - Really wish Russia was at international play so I could see him on that stage. He could fall, but he is very talented.

Spence - kid has wheels. That doesn't mean he will be star, but I do think he will be a solid NHL player

I have 5 guys tied for 10 and I think it would take a few more games of each to properly rank them.

Hagens is a smurf and is 7 months older than Celebrini relative to their draft years. Not even close to the same level of prospect.

It's a tough act to balance

They're bog committed to playing him exclusively at center, whkch makes sense for his long term development, but the only play drivers on the team are really Celebrini and Granlund right now, so Wario would need to get flexible to let that happen

I'd like to see them bring back the top-6 from the start of the season to give Smith that support:

72-71-73
64-2-20

But it seems they're trying to prioritize giving Smith lower minutes and bottom-6 deployment over playing with Granlund, but it means he's stuck with a couple of possession anchors on his wing and he isn't ready to carry them, there's no great answer right now

His unselfishness to take himself out of the rotation for 5 minutes was just the inspiration they needed, we over me
I think they want to have a linemate on each of Mack's and Will's line who is 'good' at FO.
Therefore you can't play 72-71-73. Same like 72-2-20.

Sounds like a Sharks move.

Who cares about 99% of the game. Let's have our lineups based on face offs.
It's a nice idea in theory, helping the kids have more puck possession, but obviously in practice it's meant very little considering how the team has been caved in possession with such regularity.

The reality is there is very little to no correlation between faceoff win percentage and overall puck possession metrics. In fact, outside of a goal being scored directly off an offensive zone faceoff win it's generally meaningless.

I don't think it's something this team should be basing their team construction on.

Exactly. But it feels like there should be a correlation, so it's one of those coaching theories that seems destined to prevail until the end of time.

I'd like to see our team-specific numbers on this. Given how bad we are at regaining possession in our zone (system+players), it might be that especially DZ faceoffs are disproportionately important for this team.

I dont feel a ton of woe. I'm not thrilled with the PP coaching and I think a better PP could actually have meant a couple more wins, but all in all, the effort is there. I see no quit in their game...

Personally, I wanna see them fully healthy with Walman back in. Walman over Thrun or Ruuta for 22 mins is a big difference. I also think if they keep Thompson in the lineup after Walman's return, we will finally have some offensive threats from the D. Last we had just 29 goals from the entire D combined, and that includes 7 from Macdonald who played F half the time.

This year, just 3 in 17 games (2 thompson, 1 walman). D scoring, or at least the threat of D scoring, is a very important piece to winning, so I am wondering how it will go when Walman returns.

Since celly went out so early, we havent iced a basically full roster yet.
