Eklund had 2 insane setups in the 2 periods I watched. Celebrini tries everything and in most cases fixes his own mistakes. His awareness level is way above everyone else on the team and imo in the elite tier leaguewide, he diagnoses plays super fast. Best in that regard on the ice tonight and NJ has some really talented guys.

Liljegren at one point threw a nasty hit that I wasn't expecting.

I only could watch the final 14 or so mins, when we were deep in turtle mode. How was the rest of the game?

Not great, but better than the last period. We were offensively inept the whole time and the goal was a fluke, but that's the reality of this season.

I thought the defense was a little better on zone exits in the first two periods than they have been recently, aside from one dreadful Ferraro mistake that didn't end up in the net.

Who would have predicted Thrun-Ceci would be a good pairing? Impressed with Thrun he had a really solid game and played 22:48 just behind Ceci at 22:54 for most ice time

I definitely trust Thrun more than Ferraro at this point

Excellent, vivid storytelling here. And because he's so aggressive and active, he's a player who the puck "follows around." I do hope as he gets more refined, it becomes a bit more controlled. Can't be dipsy doodling on the OZ blue line with two guys on you and no D back... Got away with that 2x today.

But I said this last year, I do think he has some MacKinnon to his game, bull in a china shop aggression on the edge of chaos, if he can rein it in a little.

At least he's not afraid to skate the puck across the blue line and keep it. Even though some of those decisions are a little ambitious, he draws the defense to him and creates space for everyone else when he does that. Meanwhile, rest of the damn team can't wait to bounce the puck off the boards and give it away as soon as they get to the blue line.

I think MacKinnon is a really good comp for him. I get the Crosby/Toews comparisons but he’s really got that, yeah, endless aggressiveness. I imagine over the next couple of months he’ll figure out which plays he can do at this level and which he can’t, but dear god he’s fun to watch and he’s going to only get better. It’s really exciting.

You could swap Liljegren and Ceci if needed, but would definitely be so much better than what we've iced in the past.
Warso can definitely try this since Rutta got that illegal check to the head, give him a day off. Ferraro with a lesser role could help him find a groove.

Really liked Liljigren's game. Only downside is he sometimes makes nice plays and I think it's Ferraro and I'm like alright check out Ferraro moving the puck, and realised it's 37 not 38.

Ferraro had a forgettable game. The frequency with which he has an easy or moderate opportunity to clear and fails is astounding. Like the dude, but getting the puck out of the zone is the most important role of a dman. He's good at blocking shots and fighting along the boards, but he's not great in front of the net, and is a disaster when it comes to everything from the moment the Sharks get possession.

Surprised by the scorecard showing Eklund as having a meh game, I felt like he was all around it.

Celebrini was a joy to watch- he's constantly creating mayhem in the offensive zone, and is just so relentless. Disagree with Drew for jumping all over him late in the game, I don't hate killer instinct and trying to put the game away. He did have a few questionable decisions that led to turnovers (mostly blind backhands), but a few of those also worked out decently well. Also, I think he's still finding his legs as he had a few lazy backchecks which isn't his game at all. He's usually harassing puck carriers like crazy.

Celebrini is like someone unleashed a chaotic force into the rink every time he’s out. He’s just flying around every shift, really fast and aggressive and seemingly everywhere, and he does something really elite almost every time he’s out there but then something kinda dumb like trying to backhand the puck through four opposing players but then somehow appears in the defensive zone to cover his own mistake and then again and again and again.

If Smith is mostly unnoticeable, you can’t help but notice Celebrini, it’s like someone let a crazed tiger loose and half the time it does a really impressive trick and the other half he eats a bunch of people.

It’s actually real fun.

He is so fun to watch and is going to be elite. What impresses me the most is his vision and creativity. The way he's able to hold on to the puck with pressure on him before making a play you don't expect, or the ballsy spin passes to the front of the net. He shields the puck and creates space so well. And he's all over the ice, like you said, always noticeable. Hard to believe he's an 18-year old.

He also just started playing in the NHL. Much like Smith, he’s going to need a few months for things to click, he’s just so good he’s still going to keep making an impact.

Before we panic, I'd also like to see his xGA/60 and XGF/60, his xGF%, and his HDCF/60 and HDCA/60 and HDCF%.

He has been a high event player, but having low possession % doesn't necessarily mean poor at chances against or chances for.

I'm not panicking, he is still the best player on the ice every shift. But the rookie mistakes and his skill moves he tries that doesn't work, could be leading to that number being so low.

I like that he's trying those plays now, because I think he'll learn how to make them work. He's already thinking the game on a totally different level than everyone else on the Sharks, and I would say most people around the league.

It’s only been 4 games. But more importantly, the team’s #1D (and really, second most important player at this point) was missing in 3 of those 4 games; the Sharks got caved in about as badly with Celebrini on the bench as they did with him on the ice in those 4 games.

It feels like a long time ago now, but I seem to remember there were a couple shifts in the 2nd and/or 3rd period against St. Louis where Celebrini's line got hemmed in badly. Considering the sample size is so small, a situation like that is going to have an outsized impact on numbers like these.
