Is Celebrini going to be our best defensive player? He is fast.
I don’t think his awareness is there just yet to really have that kind of impact in year 1. I’ve noticed him out of position on a number of plays. He might have the most takeaways and flashy defensive plays, though; he’s clearly very engaged defensively.

Offensively, on the other hand, he just looks ridiculous. He’s more impressive to me in this game than Jack Hughes.

Hard disagree. The compete level of this team vs. last year's is so much higher, and I'm loving the evolution of Eklund & Zetterlund's defensive games. The guys who're paid to defend? Yeah, they suck. But team-wide, I'm actually really happy with the defensive effort.

I didn't say he had no competition. Just that he doesn't have a lot of competition. And the fact that the title of best defensive player on the team is being fought for by an offensively gifted young player and a guy who's regarded as a good two-way player where neither are meant to be defensive stalwarts are, essentially, things in Celebrini's favor for challenging for the best defender mantle.
