The thing is, players like the black uni's, that's why you see so many teams do it.They do have input on what they wear. It's the fans who like the colorful one, plain and simple.

Rick sure seems to hate these uni's:

Michael Richards ‏@MRichie_10
How sick are the 3rd unis? Was great seeing @dooda1414 today, was an honor to be your team mate #classact #warrior

If the current generation says "sick" that means they love them, not hate them.

Wow the Avs board is unreadable, barring a couple posters.

There are some fanbases ignorant about the Kings, but they still tip their hats to Bob Miller and Jim Fox.

That board was just ignorant about both the Kings AND Bob and Jim. They have no room to talk, considering who they have.

Anyway, nice win Kings!

They claimed that O'Reilly is playing in the KHL... he is not.
FSN is terrible no matter what team they cover.

also, keep the throwbacks and ditch the current jerseys and logo.

This hasn't been brought up yet in this thread, so I will bring it up.

Some very interesting things happened in the last 40 seconds of this game, which was already in hand:

1. The officials decided to give both Ellerby and Kobasew 2-minute minors for roughing rather than 5-minute majors for fighting near the end of the game. Whether this was a break to both players for PIM this season or a type of commentary on the quality of the fight by the officials, wasn't clear.

2. The clock stopped at 0:03.2 when another scrum broke out near center ice (I believe Fraser might have been involved). Instead of facing off one more time, the officials just ran the clock out. I can't remember the last time I've seen this, if I've seen it. I know the NFL has such a rule regarding penalties and 10 seconds near the end of the game, but I didn't realize hockey had one too.

3. Related to no. 2, all four officials stayed on the ice for at least a couple of minutes until the Avalanche cleared the bench for the dressing room.

Awesome game by the Kings, as was mentioned above the only sore spot were some real stupid penalties taken by three defensemen: one each by Ellerby, DD (real stupid one), and Muzzin.

They may have been hearing things on the ice we weren't that prompted them to get the game wrapped up and make sure the teams go to their dressing rooms without further incident.

Not to hijack the thread, but since we're talking about it, I made this mockup a while back showing what a white version of the jersey might look like. I agree the old yellow ones would be pretty ugly by today's standards, but a mostly white one could work.

I remember this. The white uniform is awesome. I would definitely buy a white jersey with that design. I will never buy any of the current stuff.

Isn't there further penalty for fighting near the end of a game? I read that as the refs giving Ellerby and Kobasew (wtf) a break.

Sick defiantly means awesome. As someone from about the same age as Richards I use sick to describe many things that I think are awesome!

and I agree with him. They are sick!! Sickest in the league :yo:

I actually like the jerseys from before the "Back in Black" change the best:
Brad+Richardson+New+Jersey+Devils+v+Los+Angeles+cUEygexb1hml.jpg

I thought Black, Silver, and Purple was the coolest color scheme in the league.
Plus, purple is the color of royalty, after all
Now THESE should be our thirds...and the Forum Blue and gold should be our regulars...

My mom bought me a black t-shirt with the home plate logo. I haven't worn it once. Although I do wear BOTH my Stanley Cup 3-shirts I have. :):naughty:

What is so sad it that many think going to the Forum blue and gold is copying the Lakers. They started using that uniform in 1966 the same year that the Kings franchise was awarded, yes we started playing a year later. But both the Lakers and Kings were owned Cookie. So both are uniforms that are Forum blue and gold trace back to the same time. And how bad and uproar would there be if the Lakers tried to change their primary colors. Lets get back to our roots.

I think the reason the Lakers use purple is because they took their color from the "royal" purple color of the Kings.

The best part of the Avs' broadcast today was at the end when McNab mentioned how - due to the uneven schedule where Avs play two games in L.A. and one in Denver - this game doesn't count toward the tiebreaker but the next one does.

As if the Avs will be tied with the Kings looking for a playoff spot.

Can we quit referring to purple as "Forum blue?" Jack Kent Cooke didn't like the color referred to as purple for whatever strange reason, so he made everyone in the organization call it Forum Blue instead.

I don't work for him, you don't work for him, he doesn't own the Kings any more, and he's dead.

It's purple. Say it with me. Purple.

I love all our jerseys. The only one I wasn't crazy about was the 90's look when Gretzky was here.

I love the yellow and purple ones, and I like the current back in black simplicity of the black, white, and silver, but my all time favorites was the purple, black, silver color scheme with the crown on the front that we wore for most of the 2000's.

I liked it best when those were the regular jerseys and the back in black jerseys were the alternates.

wth? 6 pages of post game thread after a great win and 5 pages are a rehash of the endless jersey debate? :shakehead

The vintage jerseys are great, but I think the novelty of them would wear off if the Kings wore them all the time.

This. Plus they won the Cup wearing the current black and whites. Has any team ever made a major jersey change after winning a Cup?

And we can have some respect for the person that brought hockey to LA in my opinion. And the history that we have.

I think you can say either and people will know what you're talking about. I don't see why it's a big deal. College teams have names for their colors (eg. Yale Blue, Harvard Crimson). I'm not saying Forum Blue is an official color name, but that's what it goes by historically, so saying purple or Forum Blue works. Plus it's a little piece of Kings history that bandwagoners wouldn't know or care to know.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Quick had a new retro mask made for this season, but didn't use it. Wonder why.

I found the answer to my own question on LA Kings Insider:
On playing with unmatched gear and not going with the vintage color scheme:
“With the lockout, you don’t have much time to break in your gear. I’d rather go with equipment that didn’t match the jerseys that I’m comfortable in than kind of rush myself into equipment that does match the jersey.â€
