Oh yeah, you could easily create a highlight reel of US chances in the first period and most people would think it was from 3 periods of hockey. Pure domination by them. 2 missed nets, 2 posts and a few good saves by Parik.

I had to look because Zabransky now has 3 goals and is a powerplay dynamo for us.. 2 goals today and 2 goals in his entire season in the WHL (for 2 teams no less)... crazy

US is the better team on paper, no question. However this game could be closer than one might have thought in the beginning because the Czechs are clearly carried by their home crowd and are putting in the effort.

The best thing of the first period and above all must be the atmosphere in that arena. Proud to be Czech when I see this passion and appreciation for hockey. Despite the fact that the thought of CZ becoming a hockey powerhouse again seems to be so far away, the fan culture is right up there.

Agreed. Our fans are fuelling our players on to work hard and not give up!

2 things I never complain about... Czech fans and Czech effort.. I never feel we lose becasue we're not trying. Just a pure lack of development... especially at D.

I cant believe czechs are up 2-1.. so lucky so far its not even funny.
They'll have to be twice as good defensively if theyre gonna keep this close.

We have to follow the underdog script...

Keep score close for as long as possible and hope for a bounce of some sort to go our way.
I fully expect the States to not change a thing and just keep powering through us and methodically score a few goals. They are 4 lines deep against our 3 lines (which aren't that deep).
They just need to not take penalties as Czechs are emotional and love the scrums post whistles and reffing has been awful for all our games. States don't want to get into a shitshow.

I gotta disagree.. there is a big 5 and then the Czechs have been alone at 6 for about a decade now.

I'm not just referring to this tourney but international hockey in general. Obviously, the Germans are better than us at this tourney and the Swiss have a strong best on best team as well. Still, none of us are a threat to win Gold away from the Big 5.
