None of those guys replaces Joey. They can't do what he can do, and the team would be weaker. Without Johansen, we don't touch contender status.

It appears that is also difficult to do with him on the team. :sarcasm:

It will be interesting to see what form he is in mid season. There is no defending his performance in October and the first half of November, but his vision is crazy good.

It was just something I noticed in person about more than just Murray, Foligno looked slower than normal, Matty even looked a step slow. Might look different on TV when I look at the tape.

I thought the 4th line was our best line, they were dangerous all night, blocked shots, hit people and it was mainly because of Boll, I think he's played well since getting back in the lineup.

Sure we had a lot of shots but most of our shots are garbage, throw it at the net. The amount of turnovers and lack of being able to complete a pass was very disturbing.

Can't agree on the shots thing, I thought we peppered Markstrom with good shots. He just made saves.

Ca, I always found your defense of Boll last season to be loyal but sometimes overstated. And sometimes overstated to respond to those that criticized Boll even when he did his job.

For me Boll is what he is - a grinder who has little skill but willing to battle anyone anytime (sometimes foolishly, but he did). He has done exactly what was asked of him by the organization, even when seasons were lost early. Maybe even moreso in those bad years (I keep thinking those were the bad years; this year is the worst, both in terms of record and failing to meet expectations). But the need for a fighter has been and is undeniably decreasing due to changes in the league, and thus the occasional wretching over Boll's presence on the roster (and constant wretching over his contract), has continued. I have tried to stay away from that fray - for me, it is what it is.

Last night was only a one-game sample, but I'll give it up for Boll for last night's performance. :handclap: He lacks skill to bury the puck, but he was one of CBJ's best players on the ice last night. If he brought that game every night, he'd be welcome presence on the 4th line by most here (albeit with continuing wretching about his contract). Whether that was primarily because he played better or because of linemates (Wenny was good early, I see out with lower body injury now), can't really say, and doesn't really matter. 4th line and Boll were not the issue last night, they were good.

On the other hand, pylon D (by even our best D-man) and continuing lack of production out of our "best" players doomed the effort. In past 4 games, I "think" I have seen significant improvement in moving the puck out of our D-zone by the D and forwards (an occasional lapse but better). I didn't notice as many turnovers last night compared to early stretch. But what I did see last night was the D failing to stop the puck 1-on-1 and the entire team not tracking people heading to the crease. Feels like Roseann Roseannadanna "If it's not one thing, it's another...it's always something...."

Did a doubletake during last night's presser; for a minute I thought Torts was channeling Richie. The tone and the words were somewhat different, but I recall Richie saying after some games early this season that he didn't really know how to explain *&(*&^%. I didn't blame him, but knew that when he said those things the end was probably near for his tenure. Eerily I heard essentially the same message from Torts last night. He doesn't have a clue. That scares me - is there something structurally wrong with the overall roster other than needing top pair D to step forward (Trade, Werenski, Murray (but not last night's version), etc...? Is Bob the Bob most thought he was (top 10 anyway)? Is there a funk here that goes way deeper than we could know? I want to blame Joey and Nick on the o-zone issues. And they haven't produced. But our GA is pathetic, the worst in the league by a WIDE margin. Much of that GAA could be attributed to the first 7 games, but even under Torts tenure, in 5 of the 9 games CBJ has given up 3 or more goals. Under Torts style, typically 3 goals is enough for a W for either team (so much for that rule of thumb last night). We've given up 25 goals in 9 games, 2.777 GAA per game. That doesn't sound horrific, but the 5 lead teams in contention in the Metro have given up 24, 32, 38, 28 and 37 goals in their ENTIRE season to date (GAA of 1.60, 2.28, 2.37, 2.00 and 2.46, respectively). So even our "better" last 9 games isn't enough defensively, and that is with Torts' increased emphasis on D.

Sorry, rambling and lost - even Torts expressed that lost feeling last night...and I am depressed that 66 mostly meaningless games left (with no trades or other movement of any kind likely coming until the trade deadline). In spite of some limited optimism here (and bless those of you refusing to give in!:handclap: I just don't see even the remote possibility of 86 points out of this team in those 66 games (.06515 as someone previously noted), unless a 6-8 game run starts Friday - just digging too big of a hole, and anything less than .06515 for any 10 game stretch just digs the hole deeper. And that .06515 assumes 94 points is enough - Current standings of 7 & 8 spots projects 92.9 points needed, but one W shifts that to 94.9...

JUST SUCKS!

A good goalie will make it look like all the shots are sent right into his chest. That's not usually Markstrom's strong suit, but he was great last game. Guys were shooting for holes and not finding them.

Hey, three 15-1-1 runs and they're in! (coupled with a few 5 game losing streaks) Team has shown it is capable of such play. No need to panic. Just wait till they realize Auston Matthews is a possibility. :sarcasm::laugh:

Just to change the subject a little I found I missed Wiz a little during the Military Appreciation activities. He was always so proud of his military heritage - it was great to see. Jack is great as well, but I miss Wiz.

Wiz blew his military appreciation act by not being there this time despite having all the time in the world.

... not sure if serious.

Do you suggest he couldn't flew in with his leg wrapped up? He didn't hurt the arm that salutes the troops but the leg that does the walking. That's a small step if what you say about his dedication to the troops is true.

Yeah, there's always the next time...

.... I try to understand everyone's point of view even if I disagree. But with you I can't even figure out where you're coming from. Wiz was always involved in those things when he was a Jacket. He's no longer a Jacket. So he would not show up at our events. I'm sure he's just as patriotic as ever. I can't believe I even typed all that out.

Just because he was traded to a Confederate team doesn't mean he couldn't be there.
Hell, Union Colonel Cord McNally was also tricked and captured by the Confederates yet he fought back and returned to the Union blue.

I'm still not sure if you are joking, but I think you may want to step away from the computer for a bit. Expecting a player to come back to a promotion night with the team that traded him in order to show he supports veterans? Wow...

I'll worry if/when Wiz doesn't show up for a Military Appreciation Night in Carolina.

Actually, no, I won't worry at all, but if I were inclined to worry, that's when I would worry.
