Not that you're wrong but Ferraro-Rutta being together despite being ass is a bad thing. Surprised Wario hasn't tried Ferraro-Liljegren yet
yea im not a fan of it either but if the complaint is about line juggling, well there's just not that much proof of line juggling. it's not like granlund suddenly getting paired with grundstrom and smith for 2 shifts and what not.

You don't remember Duclair getting healthy scratched last year?

Honestly, if Walman's play on the GWG last game is a big part of why he isn't playing tonight, then War should probably be in the press box as well for the poor decisions he made in that same stretch.
Yeah and when it happened to Duke, it made sense. Effort issues sometimes get these sorts of coaching responses. It's within reason for a coach to do this for someone who is otherwise performing well. Are there other issues that can be addressed? Yeah and I think you can make an argument for someone like Rutta being much worse for much longer. I just think some of this is a matter of convenience with an intent to send a message to everyone in the room about it.

Nico Sturm is a mopey guy who thinks that just because he was a 4th liner for half a season on that Avs Cup-winning team that he knows about winning and deserves to win and being on the Sharks is depressing to him. He just loves to whine and find things to whine about, especially his teammates.

That was a lot of words to say "Nico Sturm is German" ;)

Scratching Walman is asinine. Walman gives us a better chance to win over anyone that is going to replace him, by far. He has been our top defensemen all year by every metric. I get holding him accountable, but to bench his a game when Ruuta/Ferarro do this on a nightly basis is comical.

Shows accountability, but at the same time allows ferraro, rutta, ceci (benning when he was here) free reign to make the same amd worse mistakes game in and game out.

Maybe walmans mistake was being a leader on the team and taking the heat and accountability for the bad game, if he had left it alone and said all the right stuff about the team needing to be better and nothing about his own game like the other so called leaders do then he would be fine.

If anyone has forgotten, Wally did take a bad hit against the boards last game. He could still be feeling the effects. Even if he says he isn’t. These are hockey players.
From Sheng:
“Everyone’s dealing with bumps and bruises, some injuries. But that has no effect into [the decision] tonight,” Warsofsky said.

“I wouldn’t say it doesn’t have anything to do with the injury,” Walman said. “I don’t know to the extent, but we wouldn’t be in this position without the injury.”
Hmmm.

I wonder if it's possible that Warsofsky is upset that Walman didn't let on how much pain he was in on Saturday night and being hurt contributed to the bad play, and Warsofsky would've rather he'd been honest about it instead of playing through it (poorly) and costing the team in the process because he wasn't at 100%.

All Warsofsky had to do was just say Walman is still nursing a bit of an injury and we wanted to give him a game to heal up. Even if that wasn't true, people would still believe it and understand. How they are going about it now just leads to more unnecessary questions.
Especially when the player himself is saying it has to do with the injury. Either coach is lying about the reasoning for the sitting, or not telling the player what he did wrong that constitutes being sat down.

There's no unnecessary questions actually directed to the coach or club. Look at the beat reporters - already blowing smoke up the coach's ass about how it shows he even holds vets accountable.

Ask too many questions or be critical and you will lose your press access.

This would be a reasonable explanation to me. If you're injured to the point that it's affecting your playing ability, then your coach needs to know that.

Like I said, if this is a one-time thing than I have no problem with it. But if it isn't, then we have a coaching problem. Holding Walman accountable for one mediocre game but never punishing Rutta or Ferraro for literally only having bad games would be ridiculous.

We have a weak media, but I guess it kinda just goes with the job.

I'm in the camp of giving the rookie coach some time. So far, the win/loss record lately is good considering that Mack has been out on IR. Plus Eklund has missed games due to injury. Considering the rest of the talent and this was the cellar team last year, I think War is doing okay so far.

Maybe wait for the half-way point to start judging him?

Something's up that feels like this.

Warso said "it's not about the injury" and Walman said "it's not not about the injury" / "we wouldn't be here without the injury."

So your / Sheng's theory makes a lot of sense here. It's basically, "you put yourself before the team - sit out, heal up, and make sure to put the team before yourself."

Possibly. I was thinking there may be more to it than what's out in the media.

Eerily similar thing happened to Walman at the end of last season with the Wings where Lalonde scratched him. It seems like Walman has some lingering injury. He said it was tough to get out of bed (yikes reminds me of Couture).

-----------------------------------------------------------

And then there was the way the season ended, with Walman playing just two of Detroit’s final 14 games as the team pushed to make the playoffs. During that time, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde referred to Walman as “not completely himself,” a vague answer that some fans found frustrating about an important piece missing key games.

“I love Derek, and I think the coaches there were great with me,” Walman said. “But I just wish that situation was handled different.”

It’s not typical for an NHL player to want information about their injury situations to be made more public. But in this case, Walman did wish more people would have been aware of what he was dealing with, and about the circumstances around him not playing.

“I guess I can tell you now: I was injured,” he said. “I was pretty badly injured, and I was doing everything I could to play through it. Trying to give myself a chance every day to be in the lineup. And got to a point where there was like five, six games in a row where I was like really hinder(ed) on the ice, and to the point where it was tough doing everyday things, like getting out of bed, and all that (stuff). Lower-body injury.”

And you know, I wouldn't actually be upset if this was the reasoning. There's something problematic in various ways about the old-school notion of guys wanting to play through anything--it can be detrimental to the team and to the player's long-term health.

It's admirable in a way, of course, but it could be a good thing if Warsofsky is pushing back against players taking that approach. (I also get it with a guy like Walman who's always been kind of on the fringes and has had to fight for his place in the league, but there is some element of leadership to not being so stubborn that you let that affect your performance.)

Warsofsky: You want it to be one way
Walman: What?
Warsofsky: You want it to be one way
Walman: Man i don't
Warsofsky: You want it to be one way
Walman: Man stop... stop saying that *puts finger in Warsofsky's face*
Warsofsky: But it's the other way

*scratched*
