Go rewatch the Pius Suter goals if you have any doubts about Walman being scratched. He was 100% responsible for both.

We're not talking about Erik Karlsson here. It's Jake Walman. He doesn't have the reputation/equity to survive a performance like that.

No need to rewatch, detective, those were 2 glaring mistakes. Still doesn’t change the fact that he has been our best and most consistent d-man so far AINEC… scratching him seems like a huge overreaction.

I know you're doubling down because of stuff you've said before, but with how Walman has played all season, you're just making yourself look like a fool. At this point it's not about quitting while you're ahead; just quit before you make yourself look even sillier.

I don't mind sending a message to Walman, injured or not, about how he played that Canucks game. You can put some blame on him for all three goals against but if anyone on defense deserves the slack it would be him.
There aren't enough players on the roster for this approach to be feasible, if it were being deployed fairly across the board with this roster. So why Walman? Feels to me like, unless we learn otherwise, he's being punished for trying to be a trouper and playing hurt and then making mistakes because of it.

Warsofsky has to send a message, especially since he elaborated after the game that they had specifically discussed the scenario that led to the game winner in their pre-scout. I'm sure Walman will be back against Minnesota.

Nobody on this team has played well enough to be above criticism. I think the gap between Walman and Thompson is smaller than you're making it out to be.

Our defense isn’t good enough to just start healthy scratching guys just because they had a rough game. This is War trying to coach like Quinn instead of bringing his own identity.

To be fair, we don't KNOW what led to the scratch

It could be based on his play last game, it could be disciplinary for other reasons, it could be because of a nagging injury, all Wario has said is that it is not related to the hit from last game

I kind of prefer the coach keeps quiet about it, too many front offices are too transparent with the media, keep the fans in the dark if it helps keep your process private, so far Wario hasn't given me a ton about him to find outright untrustworthy, not just yet

Yikes I'm on a bad roll today. And remember my post likening Eklund's face to ugly man Mark Stone's? I can't unsee it.
That's the worst thing that happened to Eklund today

He probably is being punished for it and if he's going to play like he did to help cause the three goals against, he should not have continued playing. I believe Walman is being made an example of to a degree but also because it makes sense to give him an extra night to deal with the injury while also holding him accountable for his individual poor play in that game. I agree that they should hold more vets accountable over the course of the season but this is a reasonable course of action given the circumstances leading to it, imo.

BTW scratching a guy for "the big mistake" and leaving in the guys who lead to goals against because they're literally always in the defensive zone is stupid. One game is no big deal, but if Warsofsky vs. Walman becomes a trend then Warsofsky is stupid.
I absolutely agree with this. If this is a one-off, it's perfectly fine and useful for the team and coach as a whole. I'm hoping the forced split of Ferraro and Rutta improves both players and is kept that way but I have my doubts. lol

Yup I liked that Coach kept quiet. Who knows we could be like the Kings organization, where the Coach benched Kevin Fiala in the third period of a game for being lazy, then healthy scratched him when he missed a team meeting the next morning. It becomes so newsworthy that up pops a Main Board thread about it lol. The same Kings organization that inplemented an elementary school gold star rewards system for PLD.

My last message towards this whole scratching extravaganza... it's the return of the Mack. We need to ice the best possible team to help Mack back. It's against a bad team (that could still burn us bad) so you need to take advantage of it. I'm actually hoping we get this win solely because of Mack. Celebrini needs to feel good coming back and get to a good start.

Or looked at a different way our defense is bad enough that subbing a defenseman in the lineup with one from the press box doesn't make much of a difference.

Walman has proven this season that he’s head and shoulders above the other d-men on this team. He’s also not elite so he’s going to have rough games. Scratching guys for that is just War trying, once again, to coach like he’s Quinn.
