What JBD out for 3 in a row now ... come on people
He had his man , the trailer.Tkachuk was so far back it was almost comical. He was lazy! Ullmark makes a great save and then miraculously the puck bounces to Tkachuk and he turns and heads back to the Ozone and scores. Turns from the goat to a hero!
What are these advanced stats, that show is divorced from reality.I think an over-productive PP made it hard to accurately assess the first stretch of games. Despite a lot of these "eye test" takes, it seems our advanced stats numbers are almost completely divorced from what's happening in reality. And the fact is, if we're out of it by American Thanksgiving, in just over 2 weeks, it's statistically unlikely that we'll make the playoffs.
That's not alarmist, that's just reality.
Look at the Boston and Vegas games together. They're two of the toughest buildings in the league. We were the better team in those games by far imo.Do you want garbage wins that get exposed in the playoffs or do you want solid play that trends in the right direction with the reasonable expectation that they will be our ticket to the playoffs?
The Vegas game is a great example. That was a heartbreaking loss but we outplayed one of the best teams in the league in the hardest barn in the league to play in. There was a moral victory there that gives me confidence it can beat good teams in tough playoff scenarios. That showed me a lot more than, say, the LA game which was a garbage win that only exposed how much work we have to do.
I know you'll say that if we don't win we won't make the playoffs and yeah, thats obvious but you said it yourself that the 25 game mark is when we know what this team is made of. Until then I want to see good signs that we can build from assuming we scrape together an ok record in the time being. Garbage teams get exposed in the long run regardless of their record, teams that play the right way are left standing at the end.
Right. But the reality is that right now, we're right in the thick of it.I think an over-productive PP made it hard to accurately assess the first stretch of games. After a brutal f***ing schedule too. The loses to Montreal and NYI and Buffalo sting though.Right. But the reality is that right now, we're right in the thick of it.
I think Swayman was f***ed either way. He makes the save on that shot and there;s 100% a rebound kicked out to Norris. One of the main features of 3 on 3 OT is 2 on 1s. Literally full length 2 on 1s. Ullmark made a big stop. Swayman didn't.
That's about it. Not much analysis to it.
What coach is changing his D pairs after a zero shot 3rd period?

Hammer was fine. If anything, I thought Zub was visibly shaking the rust. That 2nd goal was uncharacteristic for him. What coach is changing his D pairs after a zero shot 3rd period?
It would definitely have to be one that thought it was time to get JBD back in the lineupWhat coach is changing his D pairs after a zero shot 3rd period?
I had to look Algarve up. I had no idea where it was. Looks beautiful. It's 7° grey and gloomy here in the GTA.Bon dia from the Algarve, the next two games will be on here at 8am. YIKES!
Boston isn’t very good offensively. Toronto getting last change against our defence is a different story. What coach is changing his D pairs after a zero shot 3rd period?
Amazing that you can brush away something we've never done as a franchise just to try and make it less impressive so that you can hate on Hamonic.Boston isn’t very good offensively. Toronto getting last change against our defence is a different story.

This is where we fundamentally disagree. All these moral victories and "we outplayed them" and "we deserved better" add up to jack shit. I'm in the results part of this rebuild and have been for the previous 2 years. When we missed in 2023 with an 86 point season, I felt good about all the moral victories. They actually meant something that year. Now? Meaningless to me. A moral victory means we lost the game. Period. And losses don't get us to the playoffs.
I think both things can be true. The moral victories are meaningless but that doesn’t mean you can’t evaluate the context of the season and hold the view that things are headed in the right direction in the coming weeks/months.Further to this, it's concerning that with half a season under a decent coach in Martin, and now a full camp + 14 games under Green we're still talking about moral victories. The roster needed significant overhaul because the culture amongst the core was a losing one.
DJ talked up moral victories all the time and look at how terrible his tenure was.

IMO nothing really matters until they prove they can do the right things consistently and the wins start piling up, but the idea that we aren’t a finished product 14 games into the season after the summer’s changes isn’t something to dismiss either. I don’t think anyone is going to be talking about moral victories when it’s game 60.

The gap between Hamonic and JBD is minimal, the former being more physical, the latter being a bit better with the puck.
We'll win or lose the game based on which Sanderson shows up, if it's the one from the last 9 games we're in trouble. If we get the player he's capable of being, Hamonic won't matter.
Hamonic is not top 4 material.Hammer was fine. If anything, I thought Zub was visibly shaking the rust. That 2nd goal was uncharacteristic for him.

Not to be that guy, but I think Port (the fortified wine) comes from Porto (hence the name), but that's from northern Portugal."Algarve is a region in southern Portugal, known for its sunny climate, sandy beaches and golf courses." I hear their Port is pretty good too.
