I think Canada's defence has really played well so far today. They look at video and stuff and not many lanes open today.

I guess so, but I don’t think they’ve really been challenged as much.

The forwards have been helping out more, I’ll give them that. They are quick on the back-check and they are careful not to get too many too deep.

I’m surprised that Germany didn’t take it to that Canadian D.

I still think it’s the Achilles heel of this team. Giving them time and space is a mistake.

Dump it in deep, pressure those D and you’ll generate those turnovers.

Just standing up at the center line cedes all momentum to Canada, even if you mitigate some of the damage.

I think people are majorly overreacting to a 1 game sample size where the Canadians simply were not prepared for the intensity and desperation Russia brought after dropping that game to the Czechs...

The Ds haven't been as good as they should be on paper looking at the individual names but if anything looking at that roster right now without Lafreniere, IMO the lack of talent upfront should be a bigger problem going forward if the coaches can help the Ds settle down and adjust to what they want them to do.

I play in the NHL and when I take slashes I don't cry, drop both gloves, run to the bench for the trainer to kiss it better. Then tell the coach Im ready for the 5 on 3, no more than 5 seconds later.
Why are you micro analyzing everything Hayton does? I have not noticed you whining about mistakes made by any other player?

Up 3-0 after 2nd period without veleno and Laf
Im sure most Canadians would of been happy with that before the game

I’m also reacting to how they played against the US.

Personally I’m more worried about the D than the forwards for the medal round.

???

Only thing I said about Hayton was his massive overreaction to a shitty slash.

They are playing with more confidence as the game moves along.

I could do without some of the behind-the-back no-look passes, or giving up shooting opportunities to try and pass it through two opposing players, but overall I’m pretty content so far.

Canada was under a lot of pressure for this game.

Possibly the best aspect of the game has been Canada’s goalie, who has settled the team down with some stellar and timely saves.

This.
They started flat and it got out of hand before they could get it together. They are still one of the 5 or so teams that can win the tournament.

I didn't think the D was horrible in that game but admittedly I didn't get to see most of the first period which probably was the ugliest stretch by far in that game...

Maybe I am just not expecting as much from Ds as a whole in tournaments like this than others. Especially defensively given that its damn hard to find chemistry with your D partner that you probably don't know all that well and adjust to a different strategic setup in the matter of a couple of days for a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds...
IMO the premier Ds usually shine offensively while random pairings like the Timmins-Mete pairing that found great chemistry together are relied upon defensively. It also usually gets better going into the knockout phase when the familiarity with the system and their partners increases.

Sometimes in sports certain teams style etc match up well vs other teams. But as fan what you said about 5 teams is what we should all want.Parity makes more games exciting.

USA did Canada a solid yesterday, looks like Canada might do them a solid here as Canada winning clinches a playoff spot for the US. Not sure they want Canada to win though, they want the 1 seed.
