Well at least we have agreement that Jarmo screwed up the 4th line situation pretty badly. ;-).

Bee, I love your posts but more than any other this one just struck me.

We can buy Boll and Campbell out after this year for a little over a million a year. If we don't do that I will go nuts. It will save a million over 2 years that can be used elsewhere. Bourque will be gone by attrition. Hope springs eternal. Calvert-Karlsson-Anderson?

How old are you? And why do you know this?

What's that saying...old enough to know better, still too young to care?

I'm an amateur historian. It's been said that all historians are amateur since almost no one actually gets paid to research and disseminate history, so...

Since we no longer have decent talent for the 4th line, I think the idea of putting up and coming kids on the 4th line is a good idea. You'll keep the cost low and, at the very least, you'll get energy.

The problem isn't putting the kids out there on ELCs, it's dumping the existing contracts. Scratching the current fourth line and replacing them with kids would still add around $2.5 mil right off the bat.

I'm all about experiments, so I agree. I'm not terribly confident in any of those players though. A half dozen games for each and you might find out pretty early in the year that none of them can cut it yet. What really makes that scenario workable is a little insurance - the presence of Karlsson (a guy you could play at 4C), and Jenner, (a guy you could slide in at middle six C to push Karlsson down).

I'd guess our best bets for successful call ups this year are at other positions - Rychel, Anderson, and Bodnarchuk. Chaput is unlikely - he didn't do well last year and Campbell/Karlsson aren't going anywhere.

It's funny that we're already talking about Karlsson, who I thought looked awful the first few games and has really surged since then. Basically, a perfect example of what a kid given a chance can do: emerge really quickly and leave his early jitters behind.

I think in terms of adding the most to the lineup, Rychel would be first, then (possibly) Anderson. Chaput needs a call-up so the team at least gets some idea of what they have with him; is he worth qualifying, worth trading, or maybe someone to keep and force the trade of someone on the roster?
