He is more an offensive style D. Not really what Spits need more of and especially with the expected cost.
I would agree but if the focus is next year then you feel good about Cristoforo and Mews. Figure it out after that. Mews is an NHL draft pick and would help immensely. If you're talking about changes Winegard Eichler Mathurin are all gone after this year figure it out. This means Bowler needs to make a hockey trade. 90% of his deals were either trying to make a run or selling off. It's time to show an overall vision.

I really don't see Windbiel being called up this year because they would have to sit another 08. I also see either Newlove or Windbiel being traded at the begining of next season.

Whichever is traded should bring in a huge return. The other will be Costanzo's backup and be the Number 1 in 2 years.
Good point. The way Newlove is playing and assuming he continues this level of play might mean Windsor could get a good trade.

In Nov 2008 the Spitfires traded for a player from Owen Sound that in my opinion sparked the Spits into playing with grit and helped them win big in 2009. So today's trivia, who was that player?

I think they should also consider making a play for a returning good import now for next year. Eichler could be an OA/IMPORT but that makes no sense. Not liklely Protas is returned but could be if the Spits look like serious contenders. That leaves us with possibly 2 import selections. 1 is fine but 2nd would be lower grade pick for a go for it year. Bowler us going to have to improve the OA group. Is Outwater a contender. Not too sure, he is streaky at best. JC yes if still here (NCAA?) if he continues his stellar play. We might need both Newlove and Windbiel for next year. Bowler will need to spend for OA'S. Stay at home defenseman OA's are cheaper than scoring forward or scoring D ( not needed) we could really use a stay at home with just a hard ass slapper. I think only 4 current D should return. Hicks Walton Cristo Woodall but if BB has a soft sell one likely moved this year (not Hicks) not a chance. 24 or 44 . Both mirror each other but are still big liabilities.

I've been thinking about this for a while. Something has to happen with Froggett; either he gets more ice time to figure out what he really has, or Newlove comes in. I've liked Froggett's potential since they drafted him and it's been a waiting game. He should have been around last season instead of Michelone (no disrespect to him), but here we are.

That said, they need an 05 or 06 D who is back next season. The higher in the depth charts, the better. Who's available, though? Guys like Cam Allen, Konnor Smith (04), Andrew Gibson in the West would be ideal, but none are around next season and you'd have to move Abraham (I'd imagine) to get Smith. Do you go after a Parekh? He's not likely in the NHL next season. Josh Glavin? Bronson Ride? I'm not really sure right now.
I’m on board for a 2 year D Man. Sure, next year is the year to go, I think 90% of us on here agree with that. Greentree/Spellacy/Christoforo senior year, Belchetz, Lemeuix, Garden, Hicks with a full year under their belt. Costanzo’s OA year. It all lines up.

The part that gets tricky, is Saginaw has no picks to move, and they’re good, but once teams ramp up at the deadline, they’ll likely finish middle of the pack where they are now, if not lower. Soo is pretty much in a sell spot as well.

So the opportunity this year, is the wide open west. Our closest two competitors almost HAVE to sell. The other two teams are trailing us by 5 games, 20 games in.

Zayne Parekh would cost an arm and a leg. Average sized. Point and a half a game player. Rough, gritty, smart… dirty at times. Windsor would love him. Plus he’s got deep playoff run experience and a memorial cup.

He’d be enough for Saginaw to restock the cupboards some and provide us with that two year D Man (yes, he’s an 06, my concerns with Greentree and Spellacy moving… well those have decreased each game lately… plus I see D men in a different category with a longer path to the show).

I think Parekh would have to be the only add due to his cost. However. We have Frogget, Newlove and Windbiel. Only one of them can backup Costanzo this year. Only one of them can backup Costanzo next year. Trade bait in the offseason, to acquire the picks needed for the 25-26 deadline.

Those are my armchair GM moves for the night, and it’s crazy enough to get us a West Division title back to back years. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about. I’ve won the Stanley cup the last 9 seasons in NHL franchise mode.

I didn't include Mews on purpose; that's not happening, which I respect. Heck, I'm not even sold that Saginaw would deal Parekh to Windsor. That would be... Nesbitt, Manzo, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 5th? I'm not sure that's enough.
Deal.

Something I just realized - I'd laugh if we got the youngest Parekh (Zayne) brother after all the stuff that went down pre-COVID.

If the ownership deal with the dentist had gone through we'd have him for free lol.
He wouldn’t be cheap. But he kinda fits the bill. With his offensive production I think it also opens up the possibility to move one of our other 06’ offensive D men.

I think we could see some strange stuff, as we’re mostly..? buyers. But also moving a couple pieces to acquire some assets for a big push next season.

Getting a two year defensemen, moving some d depth for lower picks, maybe a player or two out up front for picks and a younger mid round guy who will see 3/4th minutes?
