Every shot Bouchard takes goes directly into a skate. Skating looks awful and defends like Reilly
He always had awful skating though, he can really pass the puck for sure, I think he’s a good/okay prospect, that being said I think his shot is god awful and so overrated it’s laughable.

The release on the shot is so slow there is no chance he’s going To be getting that shot off in the NHL.

Actually reminds me of Eric gudbranson(his shot) When it gets off it goes super quick and hard 100+ but he never has a chance to get it off.

I do think he’s better defensively than most people on here are think saying though.

Prob just a bad game, I just tuned in so I haven’t seen the game yet I’m going from other games and other leagues

We are seeing the same things. No doubt he is a very good prospect but he also comes with the type of warts that a lot of guys have, over time, shown to be insurmountable. Particularly the combination of poor skating/lacking defensive IQ.

Hope it works out for him regardless, the Oil sure could use a player like him.

the hot takes all over the place. But yeah Bouchard has looked Dobson-pre-tourny-bad.

Not a hot take, it's what I'm seeing in this game. If you are seeing something different, please inform.

I have nothing to say about future potential, how he will do at the next level, etc. That said every f***ing shot is in the skate and he skates like he is in quicksand.

As I said on Twitter, Dobson and Smith have been by far the best defense pair in this game. Maybe one shot attempt against. I hope someone is tracking shot attempts. This could change and they could shit the bed in the third or next game.

Whenever we rely on a player to turn out, they pretty much bust. He was looking good in the OHL but he looks a massive step behind this tournament.

Based on the 3 games we have seen, Bouchard has been bad in 2 of them on both sides of the puck.
I'd say he has been bad defensively in all 3, obviously picked up some points in the Denmark game and barely played after the 2nd period. Some of Denmark's best chances came from blatant defensive lapses from him though.

It scares me when Bouchard skates the puck out of the d-zone with an attacker hot on his trail. He looks so close to turning it over.

He at least had some offensive flair in the Denmark game. He hasn't even showed that and it's his bread and butter.

1. When Comtois makes the NHL and becomes a star... the only people that will like him will be half his team and his parents.
2. We had some good powerplay pressure for a minute with our Big 3 and then Varada put on second unit, is there some contract they signed stating they can't be together for more than 30 seconds? I hate these lines.
3. I haven't noticed Salda (good or bad) but Jenik has been great. That is now 4 guys I'd like to see surround our AHL guys - Jenik, Kondelik, Lauko and Pekar. We have 4 good options and are using none of them consistently

4. for those that didn't like my beat us with skill comment.. you missed the second part. I never once, anywhere, have said I thought the Czechs would win. Zero argument that Canada is stronger and better. Hence my point that they don't need to dive and embellish to beat us. They could actually just do it cleanly. It'd be 4-1 irregardless because Canada has 4 deep lines and about 50 other guys that never got picked.

If Bouchard turns into a better pro than Smith I’ll eat my hat. Not seeing it. You gotta be able to skate
I was very pro Bouchard at the draft and still will think he will turn out but damn, wish he would show something this tournament.

Just to clear the air, Smith isn't a great skater for his size. He has good edgework but it's an area he needs to improve to avoid being another Butcher. At this level it's fine. He also needs to improve his shot so goaltenders take him serious on the PP.

The edgework is what separates him from Butcher and I think hes a fair bit quicker as well
