Raymond with a couple grinders won't work lol. Raymond is obviously looking to pass the puck more than he is looking to shoot, so not sure how putting him with 2 grinders will work. If the plan is to have him jumpstart the 2nd line, he needs a sniper like Tarasenko

unless this is Lalondes master plan to have him shoot more because his line mates are grinders?

Sabres playing tonight. If Wings look like ass tomorrow, would hope Lalonde's seat will really start to heat up.
Thompson will make our D look laughable again. I'll say 6-3 Sabres.

Part of Raymond looking to pass is that he's got to do a lot of grunt work on that first line. The hope is that Copp/Compher will shoulder that load allowing Raymond to be a trigger man - like how it was working with Kane.

I'm not sure why they are screwing with it. The first line has looked good already, and the second line was finally showing some promise...so lets tear it up? Yeah, Kane/Debrincat have connected in the past but whatever.

benching berggren very lalonde thing to do. that said needs to start buryin some pucks.

1 point in ten games. Every line he's on doesn't gel, and if he's not putting up points I don't see what else he brings. Veleno is probably next for a benching.

What? He looked solid all season, especially lately with Kasper & Ras. Plays with effort, battles every shift I see him. I have no idea why people only look at the points..

Plus, when you look at advanced stats, he is Top5 on the team when it comes to puck control, even though he gets unfavorable deployment.. Bottom 5 in OZone Starts.

The first guy we should sit is actually Kane, because he is a black hole defensively and even with 7 points in 10 games he can't make up for it.. and if they want to try Motte again (which makes sense, since he just played 4 games so far), who they signed for a 4th line/ checking role, then sit Veleno. Or Fischer.

But that's another sign of the ingenuity regarding this franchise, creating a logjam where nobody needed it, through re-signing Veleno and then signing Motte and Watson. Made no sense then, still makes no sense after 10 games.

1 -Where does it say benched?

2- He isn't exactly doing much out there. Neither is Veleno, but at least he has a little forecheck game to him and is one of our few good faceoff guys. Berggren doesn't create enough chances when out there to make up for not having much else to his game. Still seeing the same guy who will be a good AHL scorer, but not a regular NHL player. WISH it wasn't so, but he hasn't really improved to me, thus far.

What is Berggren doing to date to beat out Fischer or Veleno? They both have an NHL 4th line gamestyle that pretty much every NHL coach wants on their 4th line. Berggren is either force his way onto top 6 or sit out. Now if we wanted to switch Tank (sit out) to give Berggren a shot higher up the lineup than sure, but he really isn't a good fit on the 4th line and hasn't really earned a higher look.

1) not sure if he benched or not, subbing with motte at pratice according to OP so i think there is a chance

2) I agree with you. he had some good looks but ultimately needs to bury some pucks

More or less good player should be good at any line. Fedorov was very good at defense. Berggren is trying to be a line driver. If he gets 2 grinders with some skills he could bring some scoring to bottom line.
Bottom line if he gets sit down , the way Berggren playing, coach deserve to get fired

You got me wrong. I want him to stay on the 3rd line, because he & Kasper looked good together (and had chemistry from last AHL season already) - and when they want to try Motte on the 4th line, they should sit a 4th liner. Not Berggren.

Which it looks like they do, by moving Ras down. Which is unfortunate for him, but makes more sense. When Motte comes in, Veleno should sit.

Berggren can try as much as he wants, every line he's been on has still been ineffective and he doesn't bring anything if he's not putting up points. And that third line hasn't looked good with Berggren on it.

And who do you want signed to be 13t/14th forwards? That's not a log jam, that's just depth. If anyone got inserted into the lineup and actually played well, they wouldn't be sat for Motte/Watson.

edit: agree about sitting Veleno. Ras is also on that list.

Need some more ugly wins to justify moving for Pettersson. ;)

Really need the win over one of those teams' people around here expect to be battling for a playoff spot.

I fear Buffalos defense will move the puck extremely well exposing the Red Wings slower defense.

If they waived Burgers I wouldn’t really care. People can keep talking about his opportunities all they want, he isn’t showing enough. He is in matchups against bottom pairs to hold a scoring threat like Fabbri and Sprong. He is failing miserably at it. We can get into other guys that also need massive addressing but can we stop with how often this guy is listed as a big answer?

The preferential treatment he needs by so many Wings fans completely perplexes me.

I think this is LaLonde’s last game if they come out flat.

Veleno been better this year, Ras looks like a garbage, maybe it's a good time to trade him

Veleno started the year really strong, looked really engaged, but he's just become less visible as the season has went on. Agree about Ras. They have moments where it looks like they could come around, but none of them maintain it.
This has been both of them damn near every season they've been on the roster. Our biggest deficiency when it comes to our bottom 6 fwd group is consistency.

If those two could show up for more than 6 games at a time, we have no forward concerns.

It doesn’t matter if they both become Jordan staal 2.0. Our forward groups problem is that they can’t generate chances because the only player with legitimate game breaking ability is Raymond and he isn’t always consistent

Why would it perplex you? It's the same coddling Kane needs to "succeed".

If they both became Jordan Staal 2.0 this team makes the playoffs easily. That dude, especially in his prime, is a two way beast.

Consistency is key, which comes from the coach.

If Bergrren isn't going to score, I'd rather have Austin Watson in his place punching people's faces.

God forbid this team has a physical forward on the 4th line that actually plays with edge. Watson should be playing.

Bergrren on a 4th line is just a waste of a spot. He either needs to play with better players or be benched.

2 40pt Jordan Staals are not stopping us from being hemmed in our zone and being unable to generate any offensive zone time. Staal has always been a very good matchup 3C. Thats Ras and Joey Vs best case. 2 elite matchup 3Cs are not what is keeping this team from the playoffs, lol
