Why do they make him wear a suit to watch his teammates? Just one of those unnecessary stupid rules that overly anal coaches impose that have that is supposed to promote discipline but really just is a needless pain in the ass.

Iirc, it's NHL policy. Burns apparently didn't like it and would wear outrageous suits. I use to run into visiting teams at Sharks Ice when my kids were playing there. They would always wear suits getting off the bus and going back on.

We were gifted club seats last night. Seeing the work and effort that Ferraro and Rutta put in. You can see it their eyes how they’re looking for the play. How hard they are working the boards.
That includes Luke Kunin. This kid bleeds teal. He does more than anyone here realizes.
All 3 of these guys get dumped on for each and every negative play. Why can’t we all also praise the good plays? These guys are out there because they do the unsung work. Nobody cares that Mario took a big hit to keep the puck in. That even when he’s exhausted, he doesn’t stop.
Maybe I don’t expect the same. It seems the “way” of this board is not to enjoy the team and discuss but to point out every wrong play and vilify that player. I know, I know, welcome to the internet.

Great game by the boys last night. There weren’t many fans but the place was loud. We got tacos too!! Very impressed by Cardy. He’s a keeper. Goose is turning it up, seems to be learning the right things. Good for him. Walman and Ceci were great finds. They’re both legitimate.

The thing is that all professional hockey players make mostly good plays. We'd be here all day if we praised all the good plays.

What separates the legitimate NHL players and the guys who don't belong or who are best tweezers is how often they make bad plays and how bad those plays are. Guys like Rutta, Ferraro, and Kunin make too many bad plays to be good, or even acceptable, NHL players.

In the end, I don't care how hard they work. I care about how effective they are. Guys like the aforementioned trio just aren't good, because they too often make bad plays, or fail to make the necessary good ones (which still means they make plenty of good plays, but that would be true of guys who dont belong above the SPHL, too).

Yeah, being here all day praising the players is just a fools game. I don’t know what you expect. There are opposing teams who want to win as well. This is sports. If our boys were perfect, why play the games?
Yes, our guys and specifically those 3 make mistakes. I don’t refute that. Go ahead and make the posts about those but even it out when they do good things. Surprisingly, to you, they do. I understand you feel great calling these guys not good or unacceptable NHL players but I disagree. These guys are NHL players. They prove it every game, mistakes and all.

At the end of the day every one of us have our favorites and every one of us creates excuses and narratives for why the ones we like struggle and why the ones we decided we don’t are not NHLers. Mario for example will be hammered here for asking (and failing) to do too much, but complain about someone on the third or fourth line making bad plays and the story is “well look who they have to play with”. And, no, I’m not talking about Will Smith. I’m talking about all the times a young kid has been paired with lesser quality linemates over the last few years.

In the cases of Ferraro, Rutta, and Kunin, the good plays rarely outweigh the bad.

You are right.
The narrative that delves into, “ he’s terrible,” or “he needs to be shot into the sun,” is lazy in my opinion.
Is Luke Kunin a great player? No. Bagging on every play of his doesn’t recognize that he does good things. Downing the coaches and management because they praise him is shortsighted. They know more than we do. That is not a hot take. That is inherently true. Negativity is easy. Positivity takes work.
Guys in bars screaming about the game is how it used to be. Now it’s online.

I think there’s a lot of things that play into it. A) playing D is a sort of thankless position. They’re like Offensive Linemen in football where if you’re defensive-minded you only really hear about them when they do something egregiously dumb. It’s not like a forward where they can make several bad plays, score a goal and all is forgiven.
B) the sharks are so offensively starved that no one really expects offense by this point. So being down 3 or 4-0 feels like a complete collapse by the defense while it’s just “a struggling offense looking to find its identity”
C) I think the longer a player is here the longer they’ve been associated with the debacle. In other words they’re all going to be the butt of the joke and a major contributing factor as to why things are so bad simply through familiarity.

Now that doesn’t mean these players are great. They do make their fair share (and some) of errors. But I agree that asking anyone to do more than they’re capable and then blaming them for not being capable is just a weird deflection.

I think that Cardwell said it best in his postgame comment. He was asked if he should have shot that one on goal when he flubbed the pass. He said, “I mean, we won so I’m not kicking myself too much.”
At times, I dislike the immediate reaction to the game. To your point and as I stated, there is a lot of unsung stuff. I feel it should be recognized.

Incessant positivity, unlike criticism or gallows humor, is virtuous and takes hard work

Sorry, almost threw out my shoulder patting myself on the back there, but at the end of the day it's worth it, just happy to cast a ray of sunshine on all of you sewer rats, one day you'll appreciate me for it

I do think there's truth to this as well. If we're laughing and mocking our own team then we're essentially alongside all the other fanbases doing the same as opposed to being the ones laughed at.

Who cares? I prefer to have fun with sports whether my team is good or bad, I make fun of them when they're bad because it's fun to do, wallowing in pity isn't fun and pretending they're actually good is sad

I mean I'm agreeing with you, dude. It's easier and more enjoyable when you can laugh and shrug at the mess rather than get angry about it while defending every loss.

So, Zetterlund has 6 goals compared to Timo's 4 goals and in 1 less game played. We also got Muk and Musty. That trade looks better and better as Zetterlund grows.

I like the good vibes that Cardwell lives his life by. Every time I hear him talk he's just giving off this "loving life and hockey" thing going.

The reason I prefer him over Blackwood is that Blackwood gives up more soft goals IMO, but agreed that I was going nuts why he didn't go out to meet that puck and just stayed between the pipes. He was damn lucky he didn't give up a goal there.
