Honest question, why do our defenseman always drop back so deep as opposed to defending the blue line? Trouba and Lindgren have been the biggest culprits historically but now it looks like they are all doing it. Makes very little sense given we have one of the top pick handling goalies and should be trying to force teams to dump it. I feel our biggest issue and this has been an issue for a few years is that we let other teams gain entry into our zone with possession so easily.
This has been a complaint of mine for ages.....The only times I can recall them actually standing up at the blue line was when Schoenfeld was coaching them.

In Trouba and Lindgren’s case it is because they have poor lateral mobility. It’s caveman defending when you are beat athletically.

I've complained about this many times, I've never seen a defenseman in my life who does this as much as Trouba. We'll have sustained offensive zone possession and this caveman is just floating around the neutral zone LMAO. There was a shift against the Caps where Rempe & Ed were pinning the Caps defense in their zone, could've generated some nice offense but someone threw it back to the point and Trouba was around center ice instead of where he should've been so the puck left the zone LOL
