Didn't get to watch but it seems everyone was happy with Jenner at center.... I've only been saying he should be play center for how long now?!

But nooooooo he's better at LW :sarcasm:

I don't see why you would start CMac since this was our first game in 4 days. Bob still had a .938 and it should have been a shutout.

Torts post game mentioned a couple of guys who think they should never be out of the lineup no matter how they are playing. Any guesses? I bet Hartnell is one of them based on his scratches last season.

Obviously premature, but at this point I do not think I would trade Werenski for any player from the 2015 or 2016 draft not named McDavid, Matthews, or Laine. Eichel is on the fence.

IMO if you'd trade him for Matthews, you'd trade him for Eichel.

Jack's ankle injury and Matthews' electric first game just make him seem not so great anymore. But the reality is Matthews hasn't been that good ever since the first game and Eichel is still a franchise changing, arguably generational American player.

I think you're overrating the effect of Eichel's ankle injury.

He's been pretty good, but has been much too inconsistent to be considered generational (Connor McDavid is the threshold here I think and there's a CLEAR gap between him and Eichel).

In fact, it's that inconsistency which is why I'm on the fence between him and Werenski.

Just to try to provide some perspective, Zach Werenski is only two months older than Matthews, and has more points per game, as a defenceman. He's been obviously better so far, in my view. I don't know if I'd trade Werenski for Matthews.

TOI report should reveal that.

Hartnell had two shifts in the 3rd.
Gagner had three.

Those are probably your two pissed veterans.

Two things. One, Brad Shaw might be a miracle worker considering how good Johnson and Savard and even Prout have been lately. And two, Zach Werenski is a franchise-transforming talent.

Some notes....

Boll was on the ice for the Saad goal, which was in the first period and didn't play the rest of the game... had just under 3 minutes TOI the entire game. woah.

Really love Rakell's game for the Ducks. Had my eye on him last year and this season he seems to be playing strong out of the gate.

In 4 career games against CBJ, John Gibson now has a GAA of 3.13 and a sv % of .871
yikes.

If there's a player whose confidence you can see oozing out of them compared to last year, it's Wennberg. He's continuing to develop into the first round talent that we all thought/knew he could be... tied for the league in assists with Patty Kane.. not bad company, eh? Although he continues to struggle in faceoffs... now down to 42 percent on the season.

With each passing game, I continue to admire Josh Anderson's play. I'll be honest, he's surprised me in the best way possible.

First time I've ever said this (honestly) and I'm sure someone agrees with me on this but I thought Prout played a solid game.. There was a critical blocked shot in the 3rd period where an Anaheim player was left alone in the slot and Prout was able to drop down in front of Bob and block it.. I thought that was huge.

Milano... 9:48 TOI... -2... no shots on goal... curious what you guys thought of his game tonight.

So is Werenski.

He's good, but let's tap the brakes.

Could we table this discussion until about January or February 2017? I want to see him play against Crosby, Malkin, Ovechekin, Stamkos, and Tavares. Corey Perry, Joe Thornton, Anze Kopitar and Jamie Benn are very good players. I would like to see a little bigger sample size. If he is an approximate point-a-game player at the half-way pole, I'll line up directly behind you.

I thought Milano played a pretty good game compared to the rest of the team. He was out there hustling and making things happen. Caused at least 2 turnovers by Ducks. Had his stick down on the ice to disrupt some passing lanes.

Saw that once I saw the final stats. I also read it mentioned that Hartnell was pretty much glued to the bench for the last 10 minutes or so of the game, Gagner was probably the same.

Honestly Torts is riding these guys a little hard with almost benching Saad and the stuff with maybe a few vets being upset with playing time but Torts has ALWAYS been a no player is bigger then the team and he does not play favorites. You will see some coaches have love affairs with their stars that even though they do nothing right they can do no wrong. Torts will bench you whether you are a 1st line ppg talent or a 4th line enforcer you get the time you earn. Saad is my tied with Jones and Werenski for my favorites I will not pick one USA star over another but he has made some lazy mistakes this year notably the floating back to D that cost us the OT win not long ago. The threat of his benching might have little a fire under him because he played a great game tonight. Last year it seemed to spark Hartnell too. I've said it so much in defense of him since he was in NY but I strongly believe in the tough love no favorites earn every minute style of coaching. I played sports for 18 years and coached between 6-8 it's hard to estimate due to taking time off for injuries but I've always found this style not only motivating for me as a player but working for me as a coach and look at our improvement since he has come here especially on D. Who would have thought Prout would be someone we would have basically no complaints about this year. Other coaches have alot to do with that as well but torts has always been a more blue collar D coach then 5 goals a night coach.

Just wanted to pop in and add a thought.

Jack Johnson and Ryan Murray played a hell of a game imo.

It's just nice to win games where the team doesn't play the best. It's also strange to not feel like there is an incoming goal when we are on the PK.

So, we have plans in place to make sure Brad Shaw never, ever leaves, right? :)

No kidding. We need to get Liam Neeson on the payroll just to be safe.

If you didn't get to see it yet, here is Torts post game presser. He talks quite a bit about benching players, and why.

I liked what I heard!

For all the talk of Saad's poor D in Overtime, that was quite the effort by Getzlaf as Wennberg crossed the blue line....reminded me of a bullfighter jumping out of the way
