I'm not sure what people were expecting. Winnipeg's at the top of the league. If Lyon was on his game this could have been much closer, but that wasn't the case.

Clearly I'm in the minority but I take some positives from the last two games. 1st period against Edmonton and 2nd period in this one the team showed some positive signs.

Schedule will start to ease up a bit now. 5-4-1 would have been a great place to be, but 4-5-1 isn't a disaster.

November schedule is make-or-break because if they can't bank some points it's time to panic for real.

vs. Buffalo
@ Chicago

@ Toronto
vs. NYR
@ Pittsburgh
@ Anaheim

@ LA
@ SJ
vs. NYI

vs. Boston
@ NYI
vs. Calgary
vs. NJD

The bolded are ones that they need to win, which would result in a 7-6 record. Probably need to steal a few points elsewhere to really feel good about the month, but on paper that's more likely than it was in October.

This to me is the most worrying, if Kasper/Danielson aren't going to be at least 60-70 point producers the rebuild is in trouble

AlJo had a brutal game. The team can't afford him having too many of those stinkers.
He wasn't the only one, for what it worth, chalk it up as a team as a team learning experience, better to have these games now and hopefully be more resilient throughout the year.

I still expect them to be in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs in April, but we are still a few years away from being the team SY envisions.

Given the wing's season starting schedule, some were predicting the wings could start the season at 1-9...being close to 0.500 and still in the hunt after the first 10 games is a glimmer of hope, but they do have to start showing up for games.

Hopefully, the flu has now run its course and we can see what they are, but you know the Jets were going to come out flying and showing no mercy after their first loss, and from what I watched last night, the wings were not there and ready for the challenge from the drop of the puck against a now 9-1 team.

Time for the team leaders to show up take over.

right, except our 2 "easy" games this year (Pit & Buf) were both disasters.

Yeah I'm with you on liking a lot of things from Edm/Wpg games. Thought they played at a good pace last night and were physical, had less trouble with turning d-zone possession into clean exits. But, you get into a fast game with Winnipeg they are too skilled and hot right now to not take advantage of it. Wings are not going to beat good teams in those kinds of games without very good/great goaltending, taking advantage of the good chances they get (Berggren twice in an otherwise very good game) and a few lucky bounces along the way.

Still way too soon to think about must-win games, apart from it perhaps being important for Lalonde that they at least win a few of the next 10.

Even if Jeff Petry's grandparents were Gordie Howe and Ty Cobb, and his aunt was married to Barry Sanders, he shouldn't be wearing a Wings jersey. This hometown Michigan boy crap is partly why Abdelkader and DeKeyser received such generous treatment from the prior regime. Yzerman made a bad signing but it's time to admit it and sit Petry.

But seriously, can someone explain to me why Jeff Petry had the most TOI last night??

Even if Seider and Ed were having an off night, Petry should not be third in line to get minutes.

I'm sure part of it is the hometown boy thing but I think it's more from the UFA side. It's a selling point for a team that doesn't have a lot of selling points to lure free agents. These guys get to play for their hometown team and be closer to family.

Petry was likely a hedge against Holl sucking, which he did. So it mostly worked last season. This season we'll see who sucks less I guess.

For sure. If you look up active NHL players from Michigan, the top 15 in GP includes six current Wings players! I wish Kyle Connor was one of those players but oh well.

Unfortunately the Swedish mafia has no further sway in the Red Wings organization so we're not getting that market anymore.
