Russia is classless almost every year. I feel no remorse for any small action Canada may have taken that the Russian captain found disrespectful lol. Chearing like you won gold after goals 4-6 is just as bad. The year Yakupov and company eliminated them they celebrated as hard as possible infront of Canada's bench. All credit to Russia for this win but they are scum when it comes to class.
I can't disagree and I don't understand it.

I know the other teams are not saints, and the chest pumping needs to be taken down a notch or two or five for everyone, but Russia really takes gloating to an extreme.

You're either ignorant or being intentionally obtuse. The fact that you started commenting on the second GA where he had nothing to do with it leads me to believe it's the former. At the time of my comment, he was controlling play. He was pretty much the only dman who was making good outlet passes and was commanding on the puck in the offensive zone.

Again I already said that I agree that Smith was not at fault for the 2nd goal. I said multiple times that Smith is not controlling the game, not that he was at fault for every single goal he was on the ice for. That being said, Smith was on the ice for multiple goals tonight. Interesting that you only decided to talk about the one goal that he wasn’t to blame for. Would talking about the other goals that he was on the ice for weaken your argument, is that why you decided to leave them out of your post?

Calling out a homer post does not make me ignorant or obtuse. I haven’t seen a single person in this thread agree with your biased statement. Smith was not in control of anything in today’s game, yet you are still trying to defend your post.

I will respectfully exit this discussion, I can’t win an arguement with a biased forum member.

I think it’s a big coaching issue when you watch these games and can tell there’s a huge disconnect between the defensemen and forwards. Just seems like Team Canada wants their D to play like bottom-pairing, time wasters. It’s a lot of chip it off the boards, stay back in the offensive zone, very, very conservative.

It’s hard for the forwards to get pressure and build up speed breaking into the zone when 90% of the breakouts are smashing it off the boards and hoping it makes it to one of your forwards.

Reminds me a lot of the year of Senators hockey under Craig Hartsburg.

Where we seemed outnumbered all over the ice, and never played with a lot of possession.

Chip it out, dump it in. Whenever we did finally get some zone time, our D were changing so there was no blue line support and the passes back left the zone.

Congrats, Russia, you deserve nothing but credit for that performance. Sometimes it's better to face adversity early on to get set mentally for the elimination games, so hoping Canada can turn this into a positive.

The player selection for defensemen is questionable if the staff wanted them to smash it off the boards.

I meant juniors particuarly and then it was 11 years since last as you say. That is pretty long time for being Canada.

People need to face the facts- there are other nations out there who are better and just as good as Canada. Every year people buy the TSN propaganda, how Canada is the team to beat in this tournament. You look at this past decade, Canada has only won twice (2015, and 2018). However, you watch TSN, and it seems like Canada is the dominant force every year. People are holding on to 2007, and 2008 which is pretty sad. Other nations this past decade have been better in this tournament than Canada. Give other nations their due. TSN propaganda needs to be toned down, since they pump up Canada as the team to beat every year; and Canada more than likely gets sent packing early.

Can't help but think challenging that first goal which was offside twice might have provided an opportunity to reset for the Canadians.
Yes! Especially considering it was offside TWICE. Nothing went right for us, today. A cluster<bleep> from top to bottom.

Last tournament and this time as well, Ty Smith doesn't impress me at all. At least NJ got Kevin Bahl in the Hall deal. He looks like a solid dman for the pros.

I'm a Canadian and really have no problem with how Russia plays or celebrates... This is a huge tournament for these kids. They get their name out there to a North American and global audience for the first time for some of them. Scouts all over... Canada use to play an almost Russian style, lots of celebrations and huge mood swings... Now they at times seem to be robotic, over coached almost.

Well, TSN has been selling this tournament the same way for years.

The results say otherwise.

I mean you can forgive him just for the post game interview alone

Hunter: “They were stronger and bigger than us. We have to play bigger than that. Throw the game out and learn about it. You can get beat pretty bad if you’re not ready to go.”

“Give the other team credit. They played well, they played hard, they shot the puck well.”

“We didn’t challenge because they didn’t show the video here” (the same angle)

No comment on Lafreniere’s health status right now.

The whole team selection is weird if their plan was to just smash it off the boards and dump it in. That style works if your forwards skate fast and play a relentless style, essentially just a bunch of hardworking grinders. But they didn’t select that roster either

Yeah, this isn’t warranted.

Russia didn’t do anything classless today that I could see so let it go.

Like I said taking shots after every whistle and celebrating the goals after the 4th as hard as they did was enough to piss off anyone. I didn't see Canada do anything in retaliation so this topic is based off what little evidence was shown and all I saw was Russia gloating like they've won gold after every goal.

I don't mind it. If you don't like it beat them and do it back to them.

If you don’t like them celebrating so much, then play better.

They earned every one of those goals against a big rival and I have no issue with them getting excited about it.

Taking shots after every whistle clearly worked for them, and it’s the kind of thing Canadian teams have done frequently over the years.

You’re just upset that our team got schooled. It happens.

It hasn't helped that Canada has hit a lull in producing Top End talent in the last 6 or so years.

On the positive side...

In the late 90's and early 2000's Canada went 7(?) years without Gold and we bounced back with 5 straight so...
