Gilbert getting a call from the player safety board. When it rains it pours. Geez can anything else go wrong this year?

The only thing that flabbegasts me is the shock and outrage from the fanbase when it was obvious just how bad this team was going to be two months ago.

ZERO regulation wins. Shutout in 3 straight games for the first time since ~1969. Worst goal differential in the entire NHL.

Don't tell me you expected them to be that bad.

I may have been the most upset about the Gaborik injury because--say what you want about where he is in his career--he still has top of the line speed and adds skill to a team sorely lacking it.

So I knew the scoring would be an issue just as it was when Gaborik went down last season, especially since Lucic was replaced with nothing.

Going in to the season, any long-term injury to one of 11/8/32 was going to sink them when coupled with the Gaborik injury. Losing either of those three for three months on top of Gaborik's two was going to put them in a hole they probably wouldn't be able to dig out of.

Toss in a 20 minute a night defenseman getting hurt and things are now horrific looking. I didn't expect zero regulation wins through this point or to be shut out for three straight games, but their place in the standings and their points earned so far is not shocking at all.

Team got blasted out of the playoffs last year and only got worse in the off-season. Couldn't afford any lengthy injuries to key players but they suffered two before even finishing 20 minutes of regular season play. Severely exposes the lack of depth created by mortgaging the future for "win now" trades and a general lack of good drafting since Pearson.

Well, the future is now and we are paying the mortgage. At least this lost season won't be like 2015 when a 1st round pick was sacrificed for the pleasure of missing the playoffs.

I'd like to point out the Kings did give Lucic an offer. So it wasn't like they just let him go. He wanted more term and more money.

That's why I'll always hate that trade. Did DL think he was going to somehow re-sign him with such cap restraints? He sure gave up a lot of assets for just one year of Looch...

He always wanted and was going to get the term and money that he got, which is why the trade was dumb

I thought the trade was a lot of risk for sure, but I don't believe DL intended the Kings to completely blow it either.

So I guess we took out a few Ducks during the 4-0 loss.

I suppose the Kings are good for something then.

thats what happens when you punch a guy that has not dropped his gloves mr bald head. Karma gotcha sucka.

Hope angel locks Sestito goes ape on them.

Plenty of time to turn things around, but I suspect it would take both roster and coaching shakeups to make this squad competitive.

At this point my goals as a fan are to see Kempe and Mersch cement roster spots, and see more of Dowd,McNabb and Forbort.

This is just *********. Really you can't skate through center ice in that sort of position and not expect to be eating jello for a couple of days. It was a clean hit on the shoulder. **** the Ducks.

Trade was great. Lombardi took a shot. Voynov got deported, but if the Kings had Lucic & Voynov they were doing damage in the playoffs. Can't win all the trades when you go all in for a cup, but Lombardi has won 2 cups going all in. Who gives a **** if he missed on the 3rd due to Voynov's visa getting pulled.

Kings have plenty of time to suck and get better through the draft now. Unless you'd prefer a mediocre team not good enough to go for a cup and not bad enough to get better.

So I guess we took out a few Ducks during the 4-0 loss.

HAHAHAH! Baldy getting knocked out by Shore no doubt! They should totally put little duck stickers on their helmets like they did on the planes in WWII to keep track of how many they shot down.

Even with the current roster, they should be better than this.

I don't care whose injured, there's no excuse for averaging 1.90 goals per game. At that rate, they're one of the all time worst offenses in modern hockey history. Just above the 2013/14 Sabres (1.83 GPG) and the 1997/98 Lightning (1.84 GPG).

To put it in perspective, the leading scorers, and number one centers on those teams were Paul Ysebaert and the great Cody Hodgson.

This Kings team has Kopitar, Doughty, Muzzin, Carter ect. There's no reason they should be down in the same realm as the Cody Hodgon lead Sabres.

The advanced stats are all saying that is bound to change but I wonder how when the vast majority of shots hit right into the goaltenders chest or leg pads. :(

After everything that has happened since June 2014, I'm almost sure of it.

Even with the current roster, they should be better than this.

Between Kopitar, Doughty, and Muzzin, they have a combined 1 5v5 assist through 10 games. Doughty and Muzzin with 0 each. It's actually sort of impressive.

You can always go back and wonder how things would've been different if different things happened. If the Kings go out in 5 quiet games in 2014 like they did in 2016, how much is different today? If the Kings don't miss the playoffs in 2015, meaning Carolina gets the non-lottery 2015 pick, does Lombardi go after Lucic? Does he let Williams go? I think once Lombardi knew he didn't win the 2015 lottery, and with Voynov up in the air, I think he wanted to make sure the team made the playoffs last year, after missing them as defending champs, and because you don't want the pick you traded ending up being Matthews. Then everything fizzled out down the stretch, and then Lombardi finally figures ok, this is no longer the same team.

Not getting high quality chances. A lot of the better quality chances are being taken by guys suffering from Stone Hands Syndrome.

The style the Kings plays relies heavily on team play. Guys like Carter/Kopitar aren't getting breakaways. Their goals rely on teammates passing/setting them up. When you put a 3rd liner on their line it destroys the ability to generate offense. Add to that the issues on defense and the puck isn't being moved up the ice quickly to get teams caught.

You make your own PDO.

I'm sick of hearing about advanced stats, **** that ****. This team is garbage right now, and a good corsi won't change that.

You can hate on that all you want but unless you truly believe this is legitimately the worst shooting and goaltending team in the modern era, and by a significant margin at that, things are going to change.

I kinda do.

It's probably just an overreaction to my despair though. :(

The 2013-2014 Sabres, featuring 44-point Cody Hodgson (now retired) as a 1C and Christian Ehrhoff (about to be bought out) as a 1D and finished with 52 points finished with a 98.17 PDO.

We are currently at 95.84 which would be historically low by several percent.

Are we worse than the 2013-2014 Buffalo Sabres?

Its still too early to tell. Things are looking bleak for this team, the players have zero confidence right now. Part of me thinks they've checked out under Sutter...

I tend to agree with all of this except the part where it's possible they're worse than that Sabres team. I suppose anything is possible, but whether you believe in CF% or not...I'm going to bet against the 43% team (BUF) and FOR the 57% team.

probably not the right thread but how many players get protected next year? is it a set number of forwards and defensemen ?
