Undeserved? Who "deserves" the ice time more? No one really earned their ice time last night. If you really wanna point fingers then I'd say Kyrou (0 goals in 9 games, 3 pts in last 7) or Buch (2 pts in last 7) aren't earning their ice time either. Your best players have to lead the way on the ice and they aren't doing it right now. Yeah Schenn isn't playing well but not sure why our two highest-paid forwards are immune to criticism.

Tkachuk put on a pretty good show for his doubters last night. Guess anyone won't be questioning his leadership after that performance.
Kyrou does not need any criticism. He is the best blues player of all time and carries the team every night. If we had a team fun of kyrous, we would be unstoppable

Well apparently some people think the Blues effort last night was partly due to Schenn's poor leadership. It's silly for fans to act like they know what kind of a "leader" a captain is, regardless. Not like strong leadership can will an entire team to victory on its own.

Either way, Tkachuk and Ottawa looked like men last night while the Blues lineup looked like a bunch of minor leaguers who had no answer for them. Our top players were no shows yet again and the defensive system has evaporated. Hofer's worst game as a Blue didn't help either.

I wonder if people will change their tune about Brady if/when he scores 40 and Ottawa makes the playoffs. I'd probably trade Kyrou and Bolduc/Snuggerud for him, but doubt it would be enough.
Last night no one performed but Schenn was absolutely part of the group that did not. If he doesn’t deserve any blame then no one does.

Well, that was one of the worst displays of effort I've seen from any Blues team...ever. It literally looked like the boys were skating in quicksand and the Sens were jetting on air glides. We were beat to every loose puck, lost most puck battles and every foot race. The worst offenders were our star veterans headed up by our beloved captain Schenn with close runners up in Buch and Kyrou. I'm ok with losing but giving up on plays or not skating hard to be involved in the play (they were always too late to even fight for the puck most instances) is a disgrace. If it weren't for the new blood on the team this year, we would currently be bottom 5. I'll say this much. I did like the effort and overall play from Toro, Neighbors, Tex, Holloway, Bro and Faulk (at least it looked like they cared and wanted to be there).

We need to trade Kyrou now. His special brand of lackadaisical play is contagious and poisonous. If this is a retool, he needs to be a cog we replace and made an example of. Hell, it couldn't hurt the offence any more than it is now. Schenn and Suter have no foot speed and should be very limited in ice time. I'd say trade them too but no one wants them. The sad thing is, this team has enough talent to compete and push for a playoff spot but not with that level of effort and determination.

It's times like this that I wish we had kept Bortuzzo. At least he might start a fight and punch someone in practice for this craptastic display of effort. Thats exactly what Schenn should be doing but he'd have to kick his own ass first. Hopefully Bannister lodges his size 10 1/2 straight up their keisters and skates the crap out of them. That was embarrassing.

After 10 games, 5-5. Some good wins. Some stinkers. Not bad enough to tank, not good enough to win anything of consequence. Your 2025 St. Louis Blues!

The amount of absolutely conclusive decisions based on one game is astounding. Yeah, we got our asses handed to us, but it's one game.

Kyrou - " Does not affect the game if he's not scoring". This has gone from an observation into the rubric by which he's judged. If he doesn't put up multiple points, fans bash him. He was one of 2 players with a >50% xGf this game, led the team in shots and had a hit that had people shocked it was him. All that while being a winger without a center the whole game. Of course, he's not producing when we have no top 6 Cs

Bannister - This years team has been praised for it's resiliency all year. One bad game and he needs to be cannedl. His job is to train the young players. Hard asses don't always work as players tune them out. Our win-losses or getting trounce does't matter. It's how they bounce back and where the kids are to start next year. Do they learn the right lessons from games like this?

Thachuk - his team has as many wins as Kyrou's and he has a great C. Stutzle was the best forward on the ice. Can we trade Kyrou+ for Stutzle or Sanderson?

Face-offs - We won like 40% of our faceiffs which was bad. Worse is we were carried by Faksa and Sunny winning 13 of 20. Schenn, Holloway and Buchnevich combined for 10 of 34. We don't have a top 6 who can win a face-off. That kills offense. Key o-zone faceoffs? Do you give them the puck or neuter your offense with Sunqvust out there. Not having a Top-6 C hurts us in numerous ways.

This was a bad game, no doubt. We got smoked. There was nothing good to take away. But it's still just one loss. We were going to have plenty of those with Thomas. Without him, y'all better grow thick skin fast (or I better grow thicker skin too deal with the overreactions). We are going to lose a lot more and several are going to be ugly. But let's not fire everyone after every loss.

The Blues rarely play well in Ottawa, no matter how bad the Sens are in a given year. No idea why. The Cup season they were shut out on the road there, and that was against the worst team in the league that season.

They bounced back with a convincing win against Pittsburgh (playoff caliber Pittsburgh), but I’m less optimistic this team has a strong bounce in them.

I'm pretty happy that last night was the first game of the season that I completely missed. The result was spoiled for me at my men's league game and I certainly wasn't going to stay up super late watching a game I knew ended as an 8-1 loss. Unfortunately, I did decide to watch the 10 minute game recap. Lot's of uninspired play, but I did have a couple takeaways.

Neighbours is trying the 'low to high' pass from the wall into the slot too often. 2 of them led to odd man rushes against last night, with one of them ending in our net. He's young, he's working on his ability to utilize teammates, and I'm pretty confident he can clean it up. Hopefully last night is a learning experience for him.

The bottom pair was awful. Neither Jospeh or Kessel resembled an NHL D man last night. I don't think either has looked particularly good this year and they once again played very limited minutes (13:56 and 10:40). I don't think there is really a solution to the bottom pair other than waiting for Leddy to get healthy. But man is it ugly when they are on the ice.

Awful, awful play by Bolduc for their 8th goal, but hopefully it doesn't cost him a spot in the lineup next game. Prior to that, he was noticeable a few times on the highlight package and he actually led all forwards in ice time. Looking at the shift log, Bannister increased his usage once the game was fully out of hand. I don't know whether that was more about the vets or Bolduc, but I like seeing him get a boost in minutes when the results aren't relevant. His mistake was a big one, but I hope it doesn't lead to a benching.

The goalies weren't as bad as I was expecting from the score and the underlying metrics. They weren't good, but I wouldn't say Hofer was our biggest problem last night.

Ugly game and I expect some more of these while Thomas and Leddy are out. Maybe not 8-1 ugly, but Buch isn't good enough at center to consistently outplay other 1Cs, Schenn just isn't a top 6 center any more, and the AHL-caliber bottom pair is probably going to keep getting beat up when they are on the ice. I don't think we are going to be in many games when the goalies aren't at their best.
