can someone help me on understanding miller as a top pairing defenseman?
Sure.
It's the same reason Heiskanen and Klingberg were never really played together.
The rest of the blueline can't do f*** all with the puck.

So they built the pairs as best they could to have a better puck handler on each pairing.
So Heiskanen was either getting Hakanpaa or Miller.
Lindell is only good(with the puck) if you want the puck iced constantly, so he needs a babysitter and Lundvist is the only RD option worth a damn moving the puck.

So it was either Suter-Miller, or Suter-Hakanpaa as the 3rd pair.
a couple years ago the easy choice for a top4 role would have been Miller so i assume he won playing next to Miro based on that

Dellandrea scores first.
Would be great to see. Very happy for Dellandrea. After the injury I thought his chances of making the opening night lineup were gone. DeBoer is great at teaching/implementing an effective system but he hasn't always been great at lineup decisions so I'm surprised Dellandrea gonna be in the lineup. The good thing is that DeBoer is pretty loyal though so I'm hoping that Dellandrea is gonna stick. Also, Dellandrea is definitely a DeBoer type of player.

In addition to what was already said, expect the first ~10 games to just be experiments to see what works and what doesn't all across the lineup.

Also, nobody else on the team can play Miro's minutes in all situations, so he will probably have at least two different partners per game depending on what the team needs at the time.

Remember when Lindell was drafted for his offensive ability :help:

This way they have an offensive player on every d pair: Heiskanen, Lundqvist, Suter. Although I'm not sure I would have classified Miller as defensive, but Heiskanen usually gets back in time.
