Geeez I just finished the game cause I gave up and went to bed after the third goal on game night cause I was exhausted from work and wasn't sleep depriving myself for that mess. I should have just not resumed.

The team continues to bail him out with goals and he continues to prove he doesn't have it. f***ing 7 goals again. I know it's only the first game but this is just bad. We have seen him play really well too I get that. This team would be so much better though with consistent but average goal tending instead of the highest highs and the lowest lows and nothing in between.

Again first game of the season but pretty sure he leads the league in games of allowing 4 or more goals over the last 3 years.

Kuemper is way better than 5giev. f***

At this point, how many of the other 30 starters are worse than 4giev?

I can think of Elvis, Vladar and Markstrom. Vladar might be the only one unquestionably worse than 5giev, the other two could have arguments made.

I'd rather have every other starter in the league over 6giev

Markstrom is actually quite good. He may not be top 5, but he's certainly in the top half of starters. He can have some rough games from time to time, but he's a few levels above those names.

If you purely look at GSAA/60. Last season there were 34 goalies that played 2200 minutes. George finished 28th on that list. Elvis, MAF, Samsonov, Ersson, Korpi, and Gibson are the guys he beat out. A couple of those guys got forced more into starting roles last year, and a couple lost their starting roles. MAF was a platoon guy. On that list only George, Elvis, and Gibson are still starters. With Elvis and Gibson, they face a significantly more difficult workload. A lot more shots, high and medium danger chances, on the PK more, a significantly closer set of shots, a lot more slot shots, etc. Their results are far more understandable given how the teams in front of them play.

IMO there is a very strong argument that George is the worst starter in the NHL today. Korpi last season would give him a very good run, but he lost his starting job. George still has his.

HF Avs in response to me saying the goaltending shouldn’t be the priority this offseason:

Kuemper proved before he came to COL that he was a legit starter. Georgiev did not, and has shown he clearly isn’t.

FTR I ain’t pining for Darcy but he’s still a better goalie than Georgiev.
Georgiev’s 1st year with the Avs was good. He was a top 10 goalie in the league based on stats. He was like 7th or 8th in Vezina voting

Georgiev's contract ends this season and by then we should have our mystery boxes opened, so that's the time to look for a goalie. I'm of the mind that only the very top goalies are worth a high investment. I think the Avs have done the right thing in theory, but you also need good scouting so you don't hit a dud.

As much as I hate Binnington, he might be one of the better options that could spring loose.

Insert watching world burn gif here 😉

Yeah, I detest the guy but he will not actively cost the Avs games in ways Georgiev does.

Just hold up. That's all the Avs ask of their goaltenders. Do not give up awful goals, stop what you are supposed to and make the occasional big save. No need to steal games most nights - the Avs play will dictate that usually.

How is this on Macfarland? He is missing three top-six forwards.

Like I said in the other thread, take Hyman, RNH and Skinner away from Edmonton and all of a sudden you have Janmark and Perry on line 2.

He was handcuffed. It happens. We have to survive.

Yeah, I hold Cmac accountable for a lot of failures, but there has been much out of his control.

The year following the Cup, not using Landy's LTIR money, the 2C issue lasting as long as it did, not recognizing 4Giev is not the answer and doing something about it, and deciding to keep picks when we suck at that shit, but...

Considering the injuries this roster is pretty good except the goalie.

More on the defensive side than anything. They lacked there last night. Alongside that, I include Toews and Makar there as outside of the PP, that pairing lacked quite a bit.

That top line is just very prone to getting taken advantage of. It really needs the grinder. I absolutely hate Drouin and Mikko on the same line for this reason.

The level of stupidity Bednar is showing here after lines like 9296, and Nuke, Kadri, Bura is impressive tbh.

At home, sure shelter them, matchups etc, but do not put those three on the ice together 5v5 on the road, please god.

I don’t know how the Avs can fix the goaltending during this season. To do that they have to trade Georgiev and find someone who’s actually an upgrade and a legit #1 goalie. We might have to ride this season with Georgiev then he’s gone as his contract expires. We find someone in the offseason

Another year wasted if he does this

the f***ed up thing is the Avs actually didnt play that bad its just every mistake ended up in the net. If you know you arent bringing this sieve back next season anyways then trade him to a San Jose or Columbus or something just get rid of this. End this embarrassment already. The Avs gassed out last season by the time they got to Dallas because they had to battle back in almost every game in the regular season.

Had the exact same thought. I didn't mind the game except the top line looking hilariously out matched without the puck, and the shit goalie.
