Also the surge was perfect. Clap, skate into the boards, catharsis
Rust seemed to have went away after that 1st period. We’ve got a contender. But we are going to miss Nino on the Staal line. I’m hoping Statsny is the right replacement.
Tripp said something about Rod thinking Kase could play either wing effectively, so I could see that working. Or Drury. If Rod decides he doesn't care about handedness, Kase might be perfect for that line instead of Stastny.
My guess is it could be a hyperextended elbow.
Necas looks like a guy who really needed the game simplified over the summer. He played a very straightforward game last night, didn't look like he was trying to be the hero at all, and just ended up littering the score sheet. He plays that kind of game, we're absolutely in business this year.
Agreed. Kase’s speed is a good complement to Fast. I’d put Stasny in the 4th line….of course, I’d have Drury playing too instead of Martinook. If Rod decides he doesn't care about handedness, Kase might be perfect for that line instead of Stastny.
“This team needs to be peaking in May and June and not December and January.”I am happy with how last night went. In the past under Brindy, we've come out of the gate in October with our hair on fire, and my worry is that by February and March we got burnt out as a team.
Last night we came out kind of flat, and it never felt like we put it into high gear, we just trudged along at a steady pace and wore Columbus down. I actually like this, and would appreciate the slow and steady approach this year so the team has a bunch in the tank to ramp it up for the playoffs. This team needs to be peaking in May and June and not December and January.

He’s going to release one of his big cats onto the ice while the whole team scrambles not to be the slowest one who gets mauled.
If you are that guy, you also get bag skated the next day in practice.
Wolves connection helps…Found a hockey bar in Chicago and half the people in here are rooting for the Hurricanes lol
Gonna get them some crampons for maximum mobility. Will the cats be wearing wee little ice skates?
I know it's only 1 game, but I noticed a few things that, on the surface, looked different with Necas vs. last year.
First, last year it seemingly was all speed, all the time. There were a number of times this game where I expected him to just continue to skate where he pulled up and slowed the game down a bit allowing him to see the ice and make a nice pass to a teammate vs. just skating it in deep and losing it. He still used his speed to his advantage when the time called for it.
Second, kind of related to the first, he made the simple play way more often when there wasn't anything available vs. trying to do too much and force things. That was noticeable to me.
Lastly, he was much more of a hound defensively than he was on a regular basis last year. Rod had to love that from him.
If that's the type of play we can get from Necas throughout the season, he's going to have a very good year.
Patiently waitingWhen Necas is king....rather than having the fiefdom kiss the ring he shall have them kiss the thighs.
Thou shalt be first in line.
Sounds awfully Datsyukian to me...Funny to see Aho got credit for one takeaway. He picked off 3 passes in the first period alone, and I remember him stripping a guy of the puck along the boards. That’s 4 clean takeaways that should be beyond dispute.
No, but I bet after they maul a Canes player, they’ll whine about the Canes divingWill the cats be wearing wee little ice skates?
I don't want to read too much into one game, but if Necas keeps that up, he will be the next President of the United States.
Yeah, feeling pretty decent with Coghlan on the powerplay is a big deal. I'm still interested in seeing him play with CDH. I think we might rotate between him and Chatfield some. Hopefully IMO.chatfield had a hell of a game. I like watching the controversial decisions early on and seeing how it plays out. CDH and chatfield gave us perfect 3rd pairing minutes. some things I noticed about chatfield this year that I didn't notice as much during last season was an improved skating ability. he's sneaky mobile and has clearly been receptive to coaching about prioritizing the puck over playing the body without losing the edge that gives him value. I think he just punched ethan bear's ticket last night. when they were talking putting him at LD, it was to create a chatfield-coghlan pairing and they kind of did the same thing they did with stepan over drury and just blocked coghlan out. people were talking about chatfield going on waivers, that was never going to happen. he was the only one who had secured a job and they were working around the premise of how to get him in the lineup and started to move him around in the event bear or coghlan compelled them.
but god, I hope we don't see much more of pesce on the powerplay. that was awful. that's probably why we wanted coghlan or bear in the lineup to take those minutes and still might as time goes on. they also have necas playing rhd on one of the units for his decision making and big shot, which might be where they wanted coghlan to keep necas on the wall and available for those one timer opportunities.
