Who will look better tonight? Zach Benson or Laf?

This Buffalo team looks really good and they are missing young stud Jack Quinn.
Lol ive seen more from Benson in 6 preseason games than I have from Laf in 3 years.

I think the Sabres will be for real this year, especially if some of their younger guys take some steps forward

I want to see the Rangers commit to shooting more. Every game. The mentality has to change for a lot of players. Shoot from everywhere. Saw a lot of goals last night around the league just throwing pucks to the net quickly. Its not about accuracy either, just get it on

To add to this, stop dusting the puck off on rebounds. They always do this and give the goaltender a chance to re position. Kakko's first goal of the pre season and I think it was Othmann who scored the second didn't make the extra move. Puck found them and in one motion went to the net.

The Quinn injury is a big deal. Not only was he their obvious breakout candidate on offense…he’s one of their few forwards who managed positive defensive metrics…and that was as a rookie. His spot in the lineup going to one of the worst all around forwards in the game in Olofsson is more likely to sink Cozens and Peterka than stay out of their way. Olofsson is a cooler who hurts everyone he plays with. Tage and Skinner were shutdown by him to start the season…then exploded as soon as he was removed and Tuch was put back. He spent the most of the year hurting Mittelstadt who finally got off his line and had 17 points in the last 11 games as Olofsson was scratched.

Knowing Quinn was hurt day one of the draft and doing nothing to replace him is a big failure on Kevyn Adams part. Compounded by Olofsson getting the spot. They’d be better off with Jost there. Hell…they’d be better off with a dozen players on their AHL team there. I can’t believe how little effort Adams put into the off-season. Same top 4 D that doesn’t really work. Olofsson still there. Bryson still on the team. All hopes pinned to a 21 year old goalie with no pro experience and two backups who are terrible.

If you told me a team that missed by one point (on a 12 year playoff drought) with all their assets and cap would return that many obvious problems I’d tell you it was impossible. But here they are. Couldn’t even replace Quinn. It’s madness.
What's Quinn's injury? I haven't kept up, but he's a good young player.

Have a Dentist appointment at 4:30 and somehow I get the feeling that that wont be the most painful part of my day... No amount of Novocaine will numb the pain of disappointment...

Honest prediction, slow start and fall behind in the 1st. Get goalied in the 2nd and 3rd. Scorching hot take I know.

Also Greenway scares me. He really seems to hate the rangers.

He's got PP2 loaded up with the kids, Miller, Wheeler & most important Gust - which is strong enough to score regularly.

Lav trusts Gust, he's seen him step up and produce in Carlsons spot last season - so I think this is by design. Gallant didnt trust PP2 at all and never gave a thought about switching the deployment.

If PP1 hits a rut, refuses to shoot in their fancy-fest of passing only - My guess is Lav wont think twice to start the 2nd unit as the first. If thats the case the kids need to take it and run with it.

We all know how dangerous the first unit is and the success they have had - but this is a necessary and healthy competition the team should want this season. Time should be earned and the team will be better because of it.

It will also provide a morale boost to the kids and a kick in the pants that the vets could use. Get the puck to the net.

no problem with giving him a look there but i don’t think KAM is a PP defenseman long term. his shot and ability to find lanes really isn’t there yet.

Awesome that we're giving Miller a chance on PP2 to start out with. It feels like he hasn't really dipped his toes into trying to control the flow of the game much yet. Which is absurd to think, given his point totals last season.

Getting some reps as the go to guy on the point could lead to yet another huge leap in development for him.

You want to develop a young player in a role, you can't just do it in practice. Game action and practice are galaxies apart. At some point you have to put them in that role in games and let them find their way... or not. But then at least you gave him the opportunity.

Hopefully he can learn to do it but in the sample we've seen I thought he was pretty awful as a PPQB, he's not very poised walking the blue line. He's not a great cycling player, he's great at generating offense off the rush and pinching in though. I'd be curious using him as the puck carrier on PP2 and then have him plant himself in front of the opponents net. Obviously Trouba isn't any better though, terrible shot selection and half the time they pass it back to the point and instead of being there he's gliding around in the neutral zone for some reason lmao.

And wasn't that about the time Miro Satan had a couple 30+ goal seasons for Buffalo?

Wonder how many of those jerseys are out there with "Satan" on the back?
That time was peak Satan. I reckon lots of Satan jerseys at Sabres games still.

Same here. Server doesn't understand my request. Try an incognito window, as that seems to work.
