All the focus in the media and on here for this season has been about the skaters and Quick, but I'm intrigued by what kind of season we see from Igor Shesterkin after he was reportedly disappointed with the ups and downs of last season. He went from being a borderline God to just above average.

His strength being positioning and efficiency in the butterfly with form-perfect movement in the net, there were times last season where he was uncharacteristically confused or out of position in a way we didn't see in his Vezina season. Reminded me of that stretch where Hank kept giving up bad goals from behind the goal line.

If Quick ends up being a problem even in the short term, I think this might be the season he plays 60 games for the first time. The difference between .935 Igor and .915 Igor comes to like a good half a goal a game difference, so a lot of NYR's positioning in the standings is going to be affected by that.

Most important thing for him is to keep his vision clear so that he can play his game. It's really only when he loses track of the puck- he's very difficult to beat clean on anything other than a point blank shot between the circles or a breakaway.

say it, wimp :sarcasm:

LAFRENIERE TO MISS SEASON OPENER IN BUFFALO

Alexis Lafreniere will not dress in the New York Rangers' season debut against the Sabres in Buffalo.

The Rangers' number-one draft pick in 2020 reportedly got his left hand stuck in a Pringles tube and was accompanied by a member of the team's medical staff at a local hospital to have it removed. Lafreniere will remain in the hospital overnight for observation, according to the team.

Jimmy Vesey will replace Lafreniere in the lineup against the Sabres. Head coach Peter Laviolette is confident Lafreniere will return for the game against the Blue Jackets on Saturday in Columbus.

"He's day to day," said Laviolette. "He's just a little shaken up, but he's fine."

This post angers me so much.

I don't even know what to say. It's factually inaccurate and just leads people to have the wrong expectations. Especially if you don't have experience around this type of thing.

You get into this mindset where of course you have these expectations, and then reality hits you like a sack of bricks.

Let's just get it right. Pringles come in tubes... not "jars".

No problem with the rest of your post.

LOL

Corrected.

Since Cuylle isn't on the PP or PK, and isn't on the 4th line, he will probably get the fewest minutes of all the forwards. He's the only top 9 forward not used on the PP, and Lav will probably just shift the 4th line after a PP expires.

Onus is on him to bring the energy big time for the 10-11 minutes he gets.

I’ve stocked up on some Nick Cage photos. Ready for the season. LGR!

All RIGHT ! No more preseason bullshit. REAL f***ING HOCKEY ! LET'S GO RANGERS !
Looking for a bounce back year to god like status for Shesty !
Really hoping Will Cuylle is NHL ready (and I think he is) . If so it's going to be a real shot in the arm for us.
Just look at the depth of that lineup ! BLAKE WHEELER and VINCENT TROCHECK on the third line. A defenceman who scored 42 points and +9 on the bottom 6 ! This is the year !!!!
STANLEY CUP HERE WE COME !

And I swear if he gets dropped to the 4th line or worse because of a few mistakes curse PL.
If this happens he is much better off in Hartford playing major minutes on what should be a decent team.
The bright spot is it seems is that Cuylle is a PL kinda guy. Maybe he will have a little bit of a longer leash. I hope so.

Leaving Vesey out ("who had a good camp" PL) feels wonky, when Bonino and Goodrow come off as a couple of teachers' pets (to some degree at least) and a certain someone is being shoehorned in as a Hail Mary. On the other hand, maybe it's a sign of depth.

Good luck to everyone for the new season, fans and players alike.

I was thinking no other team in the NHL could healthy scratch Vesey not to mention 3rd line Trocheck and Wheeler. It's either a sign of depth or foolishness. I'm hoping it's depth, time will tell.

Who will look better tonight? Zach Benson or Laf?

This Buffalo team looks really good and they are missing young stud Jack Quinn.
The Quinn injury is a big deal. Not only was he their obvious breakout candidate on offense…he’s one of their few forwards who managed positive defensive metrics…and that was as a rookie. His spot in the lineup going to one of the worst all around forwards in the game in Olofsson is more likely to sink Cozens and Peterka than stay out of their way. Olofsson is a cooler who hurts everyone he plays with. Tage and Skinner were shutdown by him to start the season…then exploded as soon as he was removed and Tuch was put back. He spent the most of the year hurting Mittelstadt who finally got off his line and had 17 points in the last 11 games as Olofsson was scratched.

Knowing Quinn was hurt day one of the draft and doing nothing to replace him is a big failure on Kevyn Adams part. Compounded by Olofsson getting the spot. They’d be better off with Jost there. Hell…they’d be better off with a dozen players on their AHL team there. I can’t believe how little effort Adams put into the off-season. Same top 4 D that doesn’t really work. Olofsson still there. Bryson still on the team. All hopes pinned to a 21 year old goalie with no pro experience and two backups who are terrible.

If you told me a team that missed by one point (on a 12 year playoff drought) with all their assets and cap would return that many obvious problems I’d tell you it was impossible. But here they are. Couldn’t even replace Quinn. It’s madness.
