To be clear, I plan to boo Haula every time he touches the puck on Wednesday. There's nothing wrong with that at all... if anything, there's something very right about that. It's why we become fans in the first place.

I'm just saying the "Why is he doing this, why does he hate us???" stuff is wildly irrational if we're going to engage in that stuff. It's not like he walked in the door and started chirping the fans. The fans started riding him, and he chirped back. Then the same people who provoked him, conclude that he's a shitty human? Come on now.

Im new to this conversation so im just going to add my opinion. The news of his discontent here got out pretty quickly and it was coming from more than 1 place. I feel like this is a where theres smoke thing. I also feel like he does not like the Canes or their fans very much, I dont twitter or face book but maybe someone claiming to be a Canes fan crossed a line there, who knows. I dont think he is a shitty human being, but I feel you are way off on him being a good soldier while here. He played well to start and as things went on he wasnt the same player. Whether that was injury or malcontent I dont know, but the play fell off the same time the rumors got out.
So good luck to him, but hope his season ends in 3 games. As far as his future as long as he isnt playing against the Canes I wish him well.

Sorry I forgot my /s to that .. you are correct..

I thought as much, but it seemed like a good opportunity to demonstrate it's not just "former player didn't fit in"

Haula is a villain, and appears to be putting himself in that position. Boo him into the sun.

And I think he enjoys it and perhaps even thrives on it. Which is the only reason I would question booing him all day.

Haula thought he should've been the #2C that Trocheck became last year but he got hurt again and his role declined even more then he became a bitch about it. There was a ton of rumblings about him causing problems in the locker room after coming back from injury (also I remember hearing something about he felt the team didn't support him enough with his wife being pregnant and having a miscarriage or something). Either way, pretty sure Haula's behavior contributed to him getting traded and he's probably still upset about that, then Canes fans piling on with the boos this game likely didn't help. As long as people aren't crossing the line I'm completely cool with this dynamic. Let him hate us and let us hate him. This isn't the modern NBA where all the players are best friends.

I don’t mind him doing it. I prefer him doing it.

And he’s a bad person because of how he left, that’s why he’s getting booed. You’re focusing on his response to the boos - but what are the boos a response to? Most thought he was a bad person before the game started. Any back and forth antagonism after that is fair game.

I don't buy that at all. Was there any emotion about Haula in here before midway through the first period last night? Did anyone even mention him in the pre-game chatter?

Here's his trade thread. In 14 pages there are a total of like 5 allusions to his not getting along with Brind'amour, and only one person outright said he "apparently is a dick".

Confirmed with Link: - Haula, Wallmark, Priskie & Luostarinen for Trocheck; 2021 5th round pick to VGK

Just a reminder of what was going on at the same time he was falling out with RBA over being benched after taking a year to get healthy:

NHL Player Erik Haula Honors Memory of Daughter After Wife Suffers Miscarriage

This whole thing about him being a bad person because he wasn't in lock-step with Rod behind closed doors is just really poor taste. If the booing is anything other than playoff fun, it's going beyond anything Haula actually did to deserve it.

Well when I said "moved on" I guess I should have said that's he isn't here anymore.

To me it's whatever, it won't be the last time someone leaves here on "bad terms". Shit happens. Although I will say I had no idea about the wife's miscarriage and if the team didn't "support" then that's not cool. But how do we know that is or isn't true? Surely Slavin and his wife were "there" in that time of need.

He was one of Nashville's best players last night precisely because he was scrapping with anyone who came near him. If we're going to boo him every time he touches the puck, we need to expect that he's going to rub it in if he scores. If our skin is too thin for that, then stop booing him and egging him on.
Haula being one of the best players on the ice for Nashville is exactly what we would hope to happen in this series. Its unlikely that Erik Haula is going to one man beat us in this series, and more power to them if they are able to make that happen. But I like our odds if this keeps up.

Think I mentioned it in the Game 55 and 56 GDTs, and others did as well.

But again I'd ask - what caused the boos yesterday? Why would they randomly start midway through the first?

I think we're mostly violently agreeing at this point, but...

I’m not sure what the deal even is. Former player going after former teammates. Former teammates goin after said player. Fans booing and trash talking said player.

isn’t all that expected?

Somewhat, yeah. I mean, there are those cases where a player leaves on good terms and the interactions between them and former teammates are (relatively) cordial. Hell, Williams captained our team against the Caps a year after playing with them, and there was hardly any extra animosity towards him (outside of typical playoff animosity).

But for whatever reason, there was a lot of behind the play/after the whistle shenanigans between Haula and a good portion of the team

It started wrong from the get-go with Haula and the Canes. They had just gotten their dream house re-done in Vegas where they loved to live and were getting married in thee days and right then he got the news of the trade. And from that it only went downhill for him.

The universe just had deemed it undoable with Haula and Canes. You can't be the bigger man when you're up against the universe.

So how does that work? It's legal to consume but you can still get drug tested and denied employment for having consumed it. Seems counter intuitive.

My Aunt who used to do a lot of hiring work always harps on this: Younger people especially don't seem to realize that even if weed is legal in some places/settings, YOU CAN STILL BE DRUG TESTED.

Happens a lot more than you'd think lol.

Agree , You never know what's going on behind the scenes and how it affects people. He put some emotional comments out there for people to take advantage of. It never ends well when you can not contain that. Him reacting to the fans just makes it worse and at the end of the day only provides entertainment for them/us. His best plan would be to ignore us but he can't. My hat is off to these guys knowing that they might get a call and have to move tomorrow. I could not work that way, not even for a million dollars.

Because he went after Necas. He got booed when he attempted to put off Necas off his game by being a dick to him. Why did he choose Necas in particular...? I think we all know.

Here's a challenge: try to picture what Haula looks like when he's happy.

He's a self-absorbed prick.

By all means it's fine. Boo the guy relentlessly. Expect him to fire back if he scores, or has to stand there and stare directly at the mob. That's how this works.

It's just a bit hypocritical to have butthurt "Haula is a shitty human, someone take this guy out" posts after we spent most of a week ripping the Panthers forum for the exact same behavior around Trocheck.

Hypocrisy is the very essence of man. Seriously.

Haula kinda reminds me of Eric Belanger. A guy we brought in for an important role where, ultimately, the fit ended up not being right for both sides. We didn't get the best out of him and he didn't give what we needed and thought he could. They seemingly asked out. And now there's some mild bad blood. Not really a big deal and I doubt either side is blameless. I can't say I really care for him at this point but I'm also not going to waste my time on him that much.

I remember being shocked when Belanger came in on a shoot-out and ended up just taking a slapshot from near the top of the circles. I was like "WTF was that?", and it was clear he didn't want to be there.
