Galchenyuk - The Pat Brisson Edition

I don't blindly hate everything about this team. I legitimately hate all the stupid **** that this franchise does, year after year, regime after regime, because they are completely and utterly incapable and unwilling to do what is best. Tell the media and the vocal minority of the fanbase to shut the **** up and let them do their jobs.

I'm tired of this dinosaur aged belief. The league has changed since the lock-out. Get the fresh and innovative hockey minds in here. This sit back, trap, dump and chase, all players must be defensive specialists who hit and dump da puck is soooo out-dated and yet we've got the team clearly headed further into the direction where skill is being moved out for useless grinders. Instead of acquiring scoring.. they're looking to find more DSP calibre players.
This, this, this, 1000x, this.

And Galchenyuk will get sacrificed on this very altar. I fully expect Therrien to proclaim him as a permanent left winger by the end of training camp, and so we will never see the Galchenyuk-as-#1C we were all but promised when he was drafted.

All because Therrien cannot properly evaluate or coach highly skilled players, and Bergevin is perhaps no more capable of doing so than his coach, whom he professes to love so much.

It was one thing to live through the dark ages of the late 90s and the 00s, where we just plain knew we sucked and had no hope of winning a Cup with the rosters that we had.

Something else entirely to live through this age, where it feels like we're so close, only to risk squandering it all away.

If we do blow this opportunity, because of the reasons you describe... honestly, I might be done as a Canadiens fan. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, and within the next year or two we get to see banner #25 being hoisted.

Not sure if anyone caught it during the draft but Therrien was having a chat with Pat Brission who is now Gally agent, wondering if they were chatting about Gally, both were laughing so maybe it wasnt a serious convo.

I had so much hope when they brought in Bergevin. There was so much talk of change, it really seemed like we were finally getting something different.

But it's the same. It's the same as Gainey and Gauthier and Savard and Houle and all of them. It's the same ****ing thing. Nothing has changed.

It kills me. It feels like when Gainey traded away McDonagh. That's the day hope officially died for me. It was slowly being reborn again, but it died.

The Subban contract negotiations was when I knew..

The Habs have hit home runs in the draft when they have been in a position to draft relatively early. Carey Price at 5 in 2005, Mcdonough at 12 in 07 Paciorety in early 20s in 07 ,Subban in 40s in 07 and arguably the best player in the 2012 draft at 3.
Problem is we haven't had consecutive years drafting top 10. That's because the Habs have done moderately well over the years in the standings.
Theres hope in the last couple of years that a couple of players drafted in the 20s range may have an impact shortly. Those being Sherback and McCarron.
In the next breath what about Hudon or Andrighetto? Heres my point. I believe the Habs are trending in the right direction through drafting and developing . Hello Gallagher,Galchenyuk,De La Rose,Beaulieu,Patteryn and we are waiting with open arms to welcome Scherbak,Mccarron,Hudon and Andrighetto. Tons of youth to compliment Pricer,Subban and Pacioretty. And don't forget the acquisition Petry. I really like where we are going.

Interesting interview with Serge Savard:

They talk about the Chelios trade (nothing new in there) but there's also a bit at the end about Galchenyuk. Savard basically says the Habs should give him a transition contract and put him in the #1C spot. Anyway you wouldn't find any better on the market.

Let's hope Bergevin is listening.

It's most logical and I think that's what the new agent was brought in to do.

The term and contract is one thing.. but I think it's going to be agreed upon that it's time to put Chucky to center and shut up. Or else, they're not signing another contract with the team.

Galchenyuk - offersheet?

If he's not signed today.

Do ya'll think he'll receive an offersheet? If so, will MB match it? Lets say, its a 6M$ offer?

He goes for a trade tonight, if he cant sign him at a correct amount?

He absolutely gets offer sheeted if not signed.

I think he's waiting for one honestly.

I'm not opposed to seeing him sign an offersheet.

A team that could use a potential #1 C could really use a player with his skillset. And we could use the draft picks during our transition.

There's something going on where teams actively FEAR offer sheets this year. It probably has to do with the fact that so many teams are up against the cap and couldn't match... but I'm thinking maybe a team has indicated that they would offer sheet RFAs.

It's legal. It's cutthroat, but it's legal.

It's also due to the very lacklustre UFA's of this year

You guys realize that there are several big name RFAs still unsigned around the league?

I'm not too worried. MB will sign or trade him.

man whatever team offer sheets him is going to get so much hate on twitter from habs fans

You don't think those fans should instead get mad at the organization that let him go? Or let the contract status get to this stage?

Galchenyuk would first have to sign/accept an offer sheet before the Canadiens would be required to match it. I can't see that happening unless it's for a staggering amount.

Not scared. Not one team is crazy enough to give him a salary that we can't match and he has not proven much so he's not worth a lot of money.

Sign a offersheet and the chance to get paid and maybe play elsewhere or re-sign and keep playing non offensive hockey in MT's system. Easy choice for me but if the Habs match at least he got paid and can pray every night MT gets canned soon.

Boston and Chicago chose to keep their vets (Chara, Sharp etc.) over moving their young players, hopefully MB doesnt make the same mistake. If Galchenyuk wants a raise then you best move Plekanec (and Emelin if anyone wants him).

Offer sheets are so rare. I highly doubt he'd get one over many of the others.
