Galchenyuk - The Pat Brisson Edition

I wouldn't be that worried or upset. I really don't see Bergevin pulling a Sweeney and trading Galchenyuk for peanuts. It's foolish for the organization, but it makes a lot of sense for Galchenyuk to wait it out.

Stepan, Tarasenko, Granlund, Huberdeau, Nyquist, and Kadri are all unsigned RFAs in similar positions.

Well, say they offer sheet him for $5.5MM.

That would really hurt Montreal's ability to improve the team, and it completely ****s things up for his future qualifying offers (which is why ROR will have to have a minimum salary of $6MM this year).

And if they don't match, it's a 1st and a 3rd. That's it.

So for a team to acquire him via trade, why would they offer anything more than a 1st and a 3rd? They don't have to give up prospects or roster players or anything. So why would they give up anything better?

Any team that offer sheets Chucky will knowingly hurt their team down the line. Not because Chucky won't help on the ice, but because the team will lose valuable picks and know that a GM with DEEP POCKETS is gonna screw your salary structure to send a message ASAP.

Interesting... SO only 18 teams could make him an offer in this range: $3,652,659 to $5,478,986

Based on my opinion only, I doubt that ducks, coyotes, bruins, sabre, blackhawks, avalanche, oilers, penguins, lightning and capitals send an offter his way.. so honestly it means that only 8 teams could try to get him...

Even less with higher brackets except for the $9,131,645 or greater brackets...

Oh boy a first and third for Galchenyuk! That mid-to-late first could turn out to be anything... maybe even a top4 d-man!

I think his defense is fine, it's where he turns the puck over that's a problem. Neutral zone and at the offensive zone blueline or just inside the line. Otherwise, gotta like the strides he's taking. I think he's being more aggressive with the puck and shooting the puck.

We always hear this and yet it never happens. If there was no salary cap in the NHL then yeah maybe that would be the case but with a salary cap everyone's pretty much on a even playing field.

i doubt any team in the league will be ready to give him 6M per year lol.

He isnt Saad yet.

Hamilton is another case as he didnt want to sign in Bos. Doubt it's the case with Galchenyuk.

Galchenyuk isnt going anywhere

the reason Boston and Chicago traded Hamilton and Saad is because they knew they were gonna get offer-sheet'ed..
Or because they thought.

Since the lockout.. there has been 8 offer sheets signed. That's far less than 1 offer sheet per season.

It could happen, but the chances are slim.

And the chances of it being too high to match are even more slim. Exactly team has accepted the compensation since the lockout (Penner).

Offer sheets are so rare. I highly doubt he'd get one over many of the others.

I don't know. The best C available in free agency this year is Ribeiro who looks like he's staying with the Preds. Wouldn't shock me to see a team at least kick the tires a bit. Worst case scenario if you offer him one is the Habs have to match and have very little cap room.

Not to mention, willingly overpaying for another RFA as retribution isn't a smart move to begin with. You end up giving up more picks than you should and destroy your cap flexibility.

That's the point.

Hawks had no choice but to trade someone because they knew they wouldn't be able to match any offer sheet.

No doubt trading Saad wasn't Bowman's first plan, but I guess time just ran out for trading Sharp and Bickell. It was either this or lose him to an offersheet for a weaker return.

Our circumstances and the Hawk's circumstances aren't even remotely similar, everyone and their dog knew they were in trouble with the cap, there's no off shet we couldn't match, it's highly, highly unlikely to happen.

I get speculating is fun, but reality is, this almost has no chance of happening.

Their ppg really aren't that much off (0.53 vs. 0.60) and Saad's played more games, on a better team, is 2 years older and smaller then Chuck

The offer sheet has to be signed and accepted by Galchenyuk. If a team really wants him and think they can negotiate a good deal outside of arbitration and an offer sheet, it makes more sense to trade for him. At the end of the day, the team that's offer sheeting him has to pay him. If they want the player and they want him on a good deal, they'll trade for him. Whether it's cap or salary constraints, no team can totally break the bank for him. If he's "available", it's potentially better value to give a little more in a trade than create a contract so big or enticing that it get's Galchenyuk's interest, but damages the team or the organization's payroll.

However, if Galchenyuk really just wants to move, we're pretty much screwed no matter what.

The real question here is not if he'll receive an offersheet, but if he'll sign it.

You guys talk about it like it's automatic, but a player can refuse to sign the offersheet.

There as been whispers but nothing confirmed that Galchenyuk isn't really happy in the role MT as him in so who really knows what Galchenyuk is thinking.

Any team that trades for him has until tomorrow noon to sign him, or else they face potential offer sheets. It's too late to trade and then sit down and negotiate a good deal.

Can you think about anything that has happened to him or by him over the past few months and weeks and days that would somehow possibly indicate whether he'd like a move or not?

Arizona or Carolina comes in with a 5.5m offersheet, 1st line C role and whatever else is in that sunbelt - we don't have a leg to stand on and a 1st and a 3rd to show for it.
