this is the bestest rumor in ages!
just the mere thought of Gagner getting the C has the pitchforks and torches out.

I think Hall will be the captain, but I don't care if it's Gagner.

going to be fun to watch it play out :)

Captains in the Pacific Division (projected and Gagner rumour)

Anaheim Ducks: Ryan Getzlaf
Calgary Flames: Mark Giordano
LA Kings: Dustin Brown
Phoenix Coyotes: Shane Doan
San Jose Sharks: Joe Thornton
Vancouver Canucks: Henrik Sedin
Edmonton Oilers: Sam Gagner

Shane Doan doesn't have a "R" in his name.

I like how some random ass poster thinks he knows what an NHL dressing room is like.

Keep going on.

I agree.

That being said, if you've ever been in a locker room environment for a prolonged period of time, whether in your adolescent or young adult life, it's not that difficult to imagine how much different it could be. It's a bunch of guys together, except on a bigger stage, with slightly inflated egos and much heavier salaries in a dressing room together laughing, joking, hyping each other up. The tenor or general level of conversation could be slightly more intense due to the variety of ages, egos and money in the room, but it can't be that much different.

This actually makes perfect sense.

Each Captain epitomizes their respective Teams.

Anaheim is a big team with lots of firepower. Getzlaf reps them perfectly fine.

LA is a huge team with a reliance on sound defense, and strong physical play. Brown epitomizes them and their playstyle.

Same descriptors could be said about the other teams. Calgary sucks but has lots of 'try'. Vancouver is a puck posession team with an abundance of finesse. Phoenix is a lunch-bucket team that outworks their opponents, etc etc.

Sam Gagner totally represents the Oilers, because we're a small easy to play against team with putrid defensive abilities, easy to knock off the puck, with little mental fortitude, and prone to taking many consecutive nights off.

Calgary only tries when they're in danger of getting a lottery pick. Have you not watched them the last 4 seasons?

It makes me sad that you actually nailed it.

This board would tear itself apart over anything.

Actually it's doing a fine job right now with the rumor of Gagner as captain.

This place actually used to be a more rational forum. Then something happened.

Gagner as captain? Whatever. Doesn't matter to me.

But I doubt that rumour has any truth to it right now. Eakins will probably pick the captain his own way, whether that involves the team or not. I doubt he has one individual pegged right now.

Overly dramatic. Yes.

Enough truth in it to hurt. Yes.

No one I've talked to and respect, who watches any team in hockey, has said anything but Taylor Hall should be Captain.

It's so painfully obvious you know only the Oilers could mess it up.

Of course it does. I just wonder why so many waste so much on something they don't like.

Please, I like that Gagner has had a few fights that his opponents held back in, but he does not stand up for his team mates by fighting. That is an absolute myth. :help:

A+

but why have Tom Brady as your leader when you could have (the recently cut) Tim Tebow as a captain? he's a winner and tries hard with limited skill. my kind of Feel Good Story.

Thank you. All but one of his fights have been because he was stuck in one if his slumps that he is known for a fought because he was frustrated.

The only time he fought to stick up for anyone was when Beauchemin almost caught Hall with his head down. Gagner embarrassed himself in that fight. Beauchemin let up big time and still almost killed little Sammy, then he laughed at him all the way to the penalty box.

But he stepped up knowing he likely would take a beating. Horcoff woudnt do that.
Getting pissed off when in a slump, at least he has emotions, also Horcoff wouldn't do that.

Fires up the team or at least should.

Horcoff definitely would never do that.

I think it is a team mentality. One that Eakins seems about to strive for.
