The need was a backup goalie and a bottom six winger with no hands?

At the 2006 draft, Dean tried to trade for Roberto Luongo, who wound up going to Vancouver. They thought Bernier would be the franchise goalie the team was lacking in the pipeline, so they took the top ranked goalie in 2006, and then traded for Dan Cloutier.

Lewis was someone Dean knew Philadelphia had highly ranked. He dealt Demitra to get that Lewis pick, and as you’ll see at that draft, Bobby Clarke forgets Claude Giroux’s name because he wasn’t who their primary target was.

And the Kings also reached in the second to draft a position of need, as Al Murray has shared a story of how he was ready to select Milan Lucic, but Lombardi instructed him to take a defenseman, so Joey Ryan is selected two picks ahead of Lucic in the second round.

Teubert's problem was that he was kind of fully developed physically so he was able to bully his peers and looked like an animal.

Then he drops the gloves for the first time as a pro and gets dropped by Taylor Pyatt of all people, a big guy but also a guy that played the entire 00's decade and never topped more than 60 penalty minutes.

Right then and there, it was obvious he wasn't as advertised when it came to toughness. I think his reputation gave him more space and time in the WHL but that vanished at the pro level. His issues had zero to do with the tough SAH defenseman going away: Matt Greene was a key member of two Cup winners in 2012 and 2014, a time period where Teubert should have been contributing greatly. His issue was that he wasn't very good, not even at the minor pro level.

Reactions: Ollie Weeks
Teubert being assigned to the ECHL immediately after the conclusion of his junior career showed how little the organization thought of him not long after he was drafted. He also had a big attitude problem that needed to be adjusted, and that demotion was done to send a message to him that didn’t seem to register with Teubert.

And used Kings 2nd round pick to draft puck mover Vyacheslav Voinov? I belive that Teubert was higher on the scouting staff's board than Karlsson and they drafted BPA, not for need.

It (2008) was a really good year to draft dman.

That's not entirely accurate.

Back in 2008 at development camp, a buddy and me ran into Lombardi. Lombardi's always been great at speaking to fans.

My buddy asked, "So, do you think there's a lack of, uh, toughness in the organization?"

Lombardi let out an exasperated sigh and said, "That's why we drafted Teubert."

We didn't ask about where he was ranked or anything like that. So he may have had Teubert ranked highly, but he also openly admitted the organization lacked toughness and Teubert addressed that need.

Vilardi with some nice work aong the boards, winning a 2 on 1 battle. Reign as a whole look a little sloppy though.

I really don't understand what the Kings are doing with Petersen. He looks fantastic but is what 25-26 years old? Prime years being used in the AHL. I have to believe Campbell is traded at the deadline.

Yeah, it's a tough position. I think he is definitely going to be on the roster next season.

LaDue gets a point shot through and it looks like Rempal or Sodergran may have cleaned up the garbage to tie the game. Kupari made a nice play to start the cycle too.

Vilardi is looking good, all things considered. Very slow, but needs to get his skating legs back.

Anderson giveaway (bad pass attempt to Clague) led to the second goal.

Well, Reign gave up an empty netter. All things considered, seemed like a good first game for Gabe. Caught a post and made some nice plays, seemed like he was slowing down a bit towards the end, which is to be expected.
