I'm not sure if it is more sad..or more exciting, that there is more interest in watching Wisconsin Badger Hockey - to see Turcotte play and Facebook streaming the Reign Friday game to see Vilardi play than to watch a Kings game!

But I also want to see the Reign game to also see: Bjornfot, JAD, Kupari, Anderson, and Durzi play too...and even Sodergran.

I think we just need something to look forward to as fans. This current Kings iteration is a disaster. Back in 2006 the Kings were a disaster and I know a lot of us watched watched a lot of Q games back in the DL rebuild. Especially the Lewiston Maineiacs because they were broadcast their games online, they were with Bernier and there was also Jack Johnson at Michigan. Same for Oscar Moller, Bud Halloway, Simmonds, Hickey etc.

Was actually excited to watch Teubert play in person on the Reign.

Teubert... bigger bust than Hickey!? Hey, Islander fans are actually smiling on this one.

All the scouting services had Tubert around top 15. I dont think I ever heard what the issue was and why his NHL career never took off. Was it Hockey IQ?

this is more on DL than Hickey sucking. Hickey is an NHL caliber player, he's just not a #4 overall.

Teubert and Hickey were both examples of Deano drafting need over BPA. The Hickey pick actually led to the Teubert pick, apparently EK was higher on the scouting staff's board, but Dean didn't want another puck mover because he had drafted Hickey the year before and Dewey at 2nd overall.

And used Kings 2nd round pick to draft puck mover Vyacheslav Voinov? I belive that Teubert was higher on the scouting staff's board than Karlsson and they drafted BPA, not for need.

It (2008) was a really good year to draft dman.

I remember reading that somewhere, I'll see if I can find anything on it. I do know that Dean specifically talked about going out of his way to draft toughness at that pick.
The Hickey pick is a perfect example of them drafting need over BPA and they did that just the year prior.

The need was a backup goalie and a bottom six winger with no hands?

He could never translate his junior play to the nhl level. It was a mistake to move up and draft for need , rather than BPA [ even DL and Futa look back and agreed]. That wanted Matt Greene 2.0, unaware that the slow, stay at home dman was going to be obsolete in a few years .We still got Doughty and Voynov in that draft so I've been over it for a long time.

I think Alzner was the BPA at that spot in the draft and later went to the Caps at 5. He was exactly what was expect, a steady dman who eventually played almost 600 games for them.
