Redundant, that is the word I would use to descriibe all 3 of those pieces we moved to get Gaborik.

Depth, that is probably the biggest ding on this move, we lost a solid bottom pairing dman, a 2nd line center and 3rd line banger.

All good guys, all surely will contribute in NY. All also very redundant with the roster we have now, but valuable when the injuries start piling up.

Yep, yep.

Viq, you know I luvs ya, and I'm an Umby fan. But. Umby has not produced at second line level this year. And that's fine. He is where he is right now. I know others will ***** and moan about his salary, but it doesn't bother me. I'm not the one paying him and it's not really hurting us.

As for Gabby, he may not have shown up on the score sheet last night but I thought he had a good game.

He's either been asked to lead the offense (d'oh) or asked to manage the third scoring line (meh). Of course he's not producing at that level. He's still contributing, though, and that's good enough for me. (Seems to be good enough for you as well.)

If folks want to whine about point-production-for-money, they can go talk to Todd Richards about how and where he's playing guys. The current combinations work, though, so there's really no point.

Yes, Umby is somewhat overpaid and theoretically replaceable. But not as easily as folks assume, and not for nearly as little in $$ as folks want to believe.

well, the word I got is the only reason Umby isn't on the 4th line right now, is because HCTR likes how Dmac, Boll, and Comeau play together...he doesn't want to break up that energy line and so unfortunately the only place to put Umby is with Joey and Foligno...take it for what you want...but "66.6%" (as I'll refer to him until he's finally bought out) is weighing this team down, not helping it...

Why Trade John Moore?

Rangers fan, coming in peace (for the time being, frankly, I can't wait to see our squads get it on big time next year).

What was the impetus behind adding John Moore to the Gaborik deal? The guy has been an ABSOLUTE REVELATION for us. He's skating like crazy - I mean, he looks so much like McDonagh that Sam Rosen has been screwing up their names recently - and he's just been fantastic for us on the backend.

I get that Gaborik was a huge name, but he was also slumping hard, and I can't help but wonder why JK didn't try to talk them out of taking Moore.

Can you guys shed some light? Are Rangers fans seeing a different player than you did?

I'm a ranger fan too so I don't know the answer to this question but I think it was either Moore or a 1st in this deep draft.

It was either

Gaborik for Brassard, Dorsett, 2013 1st, and 2013 6th rounder

Or

Gaborik for Brassard, Dorsett, Moore, and 6th rounder

Have to give to get? Not to mention, at least in the last half or so of the games he'd been passed up by Dalton Prout and Erixon, not to mention having Murray coming up in the next year or so. We have a ton of young dmen, thus Moore became expendable.

I thought adding Moore was an overpayment. The fact that we had a surplus of young dmen doesn't necessitate that he had to be included in the Gaborik trade. I personally think Moore will be a very good player for many years to come.

What did you think you were getting for a player of Gaborik's caliber? It's not our fault you had never heard of John Moore before he became part of the NYR organization. He's a good player. He's the only piece most CBJ fans wish hadn't been traded away in that deal. He should have a long career. I hope someone will come from your forum every time he has a good game and ask us fans what the hell we were thinking.

What kind of question is this? This is like a Blue JAcket fan coming on our board and asking why did we Trade Anisimov for Nash when Arty was playing well. The answer is probably because Stu Bickel wasn't enough to get a deal done.

...Really?
The answer why we traded John Moore is pretty simple:

Jack Johnson
Fedor Tyutin
James Wizimnotgoingtotrytofinishtherestofhisname
Dalton Prout
Tim Erixon
Adrian Aucoin
Cody Goloubef
David Savard
Ryan Murray

Sure, Moore was better than some of those guys, particularly Goldcoin and Savard, but it's a position of great depth for the team and we needed scoring. I'm glad to see Moore succeed, but certainly it wasn't a huge blow to trade him.

I know numbers aren't everything, but 6 points in the 13 regular season games he played with you guys almost doubled his career output. Johnny has always been a phenomenal skater, we've always known that. But he was never a huge difference maker for us. He didn't fight either, as shown a few games into his Rangers tenure (which I could imagine really impressed people right away).

I don't think many doubted his ability. He just needed to bring all of his skills together in the right way. Maybe the trade just gave him the boost that he needed. He's a great kid too, so you want players like him to succeed.

I commented on this in the around the league thread. I don't watch your team a lot, but I think this speaks as much to what you have as much as Moore as a player.

If the two games I've watched this post season are any indication, you have some problems on the blue line. The decision making is slow making your transition look horrible. Of course, you're still icing Stawman. We dumped that dude years ago and for good reason. I'm sure Staal missing has hurt, but I know these guys you have should be a lot better than what they have been showing.

I am so used to seeing our defense in action in the West, I was kind of blown away watching your series.

As far as the original question, he was needed to get the deal done. He was further down on the depth chart. The same could be said with "Why did you give us Erixon in the Nash deal". Erixon was better for us than Moore this season. Prout just pushed it over the edge and with Murray coming, something was going to need to be done. That was Gaborik.

Because you can find John Moore's all over the place, and he was passed by several other defensive prospects.

He has future Captain written all over him. Highly underrated offensive game. He was on pace for a PPG in everett this season before he was injured.

Just because we've been lucky enough to find Johnny Moore's all over the place, doesn't mean that "you can find John Moore's all over the place". GM's around the league look for players like this and don't think they're easy to find.

Smooth skating defenseman who are good in both ends? I can give you a long list of players who fit that build. Nothing against Moore, he's a good 2nd pairing guy, but he's not anything special.

Well, that's actually better than my description of John Moore. I think I see what you're saying- that kind of defenceman is easier to find relative to a top flight winger. Now let's just hope that we actually get a top flight winger, and for more than a year.

Does he get traded to Washington to play with Ovechkin? When did one month with a team regard you as the next awesome first liner? Oh right, because he's in New York. Got it.

We'll be saying the same things as we say about him now. He was a disappointing player who only tried when he wanted to regardless of his great potential. He would never be producing like he is right now in NY if he was here. But it's safe to say we're not worried about it.

Since he's never put up more than 47 in a season, I'll say, "damn, I wish he had done something like that when he was a Jacket!" What will you have to say if he never tops 50?

Are we supposed to be fearful of Brassard figuring it out? If he figures it out, good for him. I will say the East is a good spot for him to pad his stats.

My question is what are the NYR fans when Gaborik puts up multiple 40 goal seasons again ;)
