Are the Islanders your "Eastern Conference team" because of Patrick Roy?

I have another theory why we play win one lose one hockey lately. Maybe it’s because the Avs want to stay and finish 4th in central to play the Jets who we match up well against in the playoffs and beaten them instead of finishing 3rd or 2nd and possibly playing Dallas who we can’t beat. This is probably more of alcohol talking than any truth to it but I still bring it up for the sake of bringing it up

They don't practice? What?
They’re clearly really, really worried about the team being worn out. So much so they’re making practices as optional as possible and from what I understand they’re not even working all that much on the power play. They’re desperately trying to keep the workload as light as possible before the Four Nothing Tournament break.

I don’t think it’s the right move but whatever.

This team is just…average right now. Basically can’t string wins together in any appreciable form.

Power play is abysmal.

Goaltending has been sorta meh lately (not blaming Blackwood here BTW).

Team defense has been inexcusably bad.

Team offense has been generating shots but it’s like they gotta make the perfect shot in order for it to go in. I think that’s why they’ve been so abysmal hitting the net this year. Every time they’re trying to pick the corners. They seem unable to score the greasy goals if their name isn’t Lehkonen.

I just don’t love how this team is constructed. Guys like Colton and Wood either need to generate offense or provide really good defense. They’re doing neither. Third pairing has been abysmal, second pairing has been bad.

This was a BAD loss. Really drove home why they’re stuck in neutral.

I can't believe i read that and that it's real...

maybe don't be the team with the highest TOI for their top players if they don't want to wear them out? They absolutely should be practicing with 2 brand new bodies. And we're wondering why there's a lack of effort? Lack of focus? Lack of motivation? They're in coast mode from the coaching staff down. Wtf is this...

CMac sent mikko packing for coasting. The whole coaching staff should be gutted next.

They don't practice? What?
Damn skippy.

You remember that gif of Jim Mora about Playoffs? Just superimpose Bednar's head the word "Practice".

That was definately a standard Avs game this year:

-1st line skating aroung the perimeter shooting alibi shots
-If they finally get a nice pass to goal opportunity its either shot wide or not taken at all (lookin at you Mack)
-Defender comin up hot creates 2 on 1 against to a goal for the other team
-Lazy pressure from the 1st line leads to a goal against
-Bottom line goal taken away by interference or something else
-Losing faceoffs
-PP sucks again since they propably told Mack take back his static position and stop skating around which worked nicely against Rangers
-Goals against are some weard deflections

Yeah Avs are not dangerous at all this year. Bunch of speed and attack on paper but when it matters they fall on their errors..

Years and years of overplaying the top guys is costing us. Imo. They got some bad habits from playing so much. Like Mikko. He could get away a lot of stuff because he played a lot, but in the end it made him new weaknesses. Then that masked a lot of problems around the team because top line saved our ass many times. We didn't try to become better team, we wanted to be a team carried by Mack, Makar, Mikko and Toews basically. Now that the top guys are either gone or older it's becoming harder and harder to mask those issues because rest of the team isn't used to do shit or carry this team.

This Islanders game, we should have put the game to bed in the second period. Total domination. What I would want to see more is crashing the net and dirty goals and dirty work. We are a bit too much perimeter team. A bit softies. This team could really use Nuke and Landy. Those guys would help so much in that respect.

If we had more net presence yesterday we probably score from one of those million rebounds we got and win the game in the second period.

Parsnip situation was a good example. He was there close to net and almost got a cheap goal with a skate. That's sort of stuff we need. Scrappy goals.

Finnish 4th doesn't mean the Jets automatically. It could be the top of the Pacific, Oilers/VGK. Personally I would prefer finishing 2nd or 3rd and face Dallas/Minny.

I don't know if it would work putting Necas in Mack's spot in the PP. As seen against the Rangers he can shoot the puck. Mack could play in the right side moving from the blueline then skating forward to either shoot or pass. I think we're wasting Necas and his ability to shoot playing him behind the net or next to it. Drouin should be doing that since he's not shooting anyway. Only thing that wouldn't work well with this idea is the Mack pass to Lehkonen for quick release.

Night and Day with this team.... They can beat everyone when they are "on", motivated and running on all cylinders.

Unfortunately, they aren´t on way too many nights....

Playoffs are not a sure thing.... And there is a big west-coast trip before the break....Just sayin...

They better get going, or this season could become very ugly and end sooner than expected. Contender? My ass.. Right know its all about making the playoffs......

I'd go as far as the team is poorly constructed and simply is a bottom 10 team that gets a slight bump from having 2 of the best players on the planet.

You have a bottom six that doesn't provide anything of value outside of Drury and LOC. The combo of the other 4 guys down there wouldn't know what scoring is and sure as hell cant play defense.

The 2nd line is an utter black hole because of Middlesuck. So they don't do anything.

Top line usually controls play but always overpasses. Could be so much more effective if they actually just shot the puck.

Defense outside of 8 and 7 is shaky and streaky at best. And 44 and 70 are not NHL players and can't be trusted in the slightest.

Goalies are fine but fatigue of having to be basically perfect every night has set in. Tough to play when you have no confidence that the team will score more than 1 or 2.

PP is beyond terrible. Easily the worst PP in the league and probably worst PP I've seen from a Colorado team since they've been in Denver. They don't do anything well on the PP.

Simply shooting the puck is a minor miracle, because why shoot when you can pass. Like you said when they actually do shoot, it's usually so fine tuned that they miss the net completely.

This team doesn't know the definition of greasy. They couldn't be bothered to get their hands dirty. I could probably count the greasy plays this team has made on one hand for the entire year. Bednar's system is not a greasy one, but this the first year where they flat out won't go to the greasy areas.

Last night's loss doesn't even really bother me. They were fine last night, the better team for a majority. Islanders basically did nothing offensively unfortunately when they did get zone time they scored. But we win this game if the league doesn't completely f*** us on a phantom GI where our player never initiates contact with the goalie. They never even touch each other if Sorokin doesn't reach out to push Drury.

The game that bothers me from the road trip is the Boston game. They shit that one away. Played well but couldn't be bothered to extend the lead when they had a chance and then played a horrid 3rd period. Should never have lost that one.

A lot of flaws right now in this teams’ game. It’s more than just missing Nichushkin.

Got to play better top to bottom. Goaltending was great for a while and is back to looking rough again.

Everyone needs to be better. Show McFarland going ‘all in’ would be the right decision.

Colton is really fkn cold right now. I don't know what's going on there, but he's skating a lot and doing nothing. One shot on goal in 14 minutes last night.

They've got no one who can actually go to the net hold up and clean up in the top six. They're definitely missing Nuke in this way.
