The Avs penchant for super high risk, low reward plays right around the blue lines is absolutely baffling. MacK has a lane to get the puck out of the zone with the period coming to an end, and instead tries a low reward soft breakout that gets easily picked off. It's the same as them finally breaking into the zone, only to do a drop pass off to a guy that's standing right at the blue who is at a dead stop.

Who thought that this was a good idea?

Interesting observation at the end of that period... Rantanen took a poke at someone coming down the side boards in a weak effort.. It looked like mackinnon saw that and then threw the body on him. Almost as if to say "f*** man do it like this"

The team just feels a bit disjointed, they aren't creating those high danger chances and that quick strike offense that they were known for. Just feels like they only want to shoot from the perimeter these days.

He'd be fantastic as the 4C on a hustle line, but that would require them to have Mitts really figure it out and carry that 2nd line and for a legit 3C to emerge to take that defensive responsibility.

Yeah it was a weak, cheating effort, trying to chip the puck pass the player to get a break. Selfish.
