They signed Ryu, Springer, Gausman and Bassitt how many years ago?

Now let's do the last 2 years. Are you honestly happy with what they have done?
No, I’m not. But they went after the 3 most high profile players and struck out. It sucks. But to sit here and talk shit about them is ridiculous. I’d rather they try and failed than not try at all. People are only upset because social media spews their garbage. Social media ruins everything whether you want to believe it or not.

Most fans don't watch their favorite teams while they are supposed to be in a contention window and say... well they tried, too bad they didn't improve. Social media is trash and 99% of the reports on most of the sites are pure speculation and uneducated guesses, that's on each fan to temper their own expectations. I think the fact that they went after the big free agents and struck out, can be lived with by most. It's the back up plans they have followed... going from Ohtani to KK, IKF, Turner as example like many referenced. It's not a step down, it's multiple tiers below what you say you are aiming for. If they are serious about competing for championships then you make things happen via trades, get aggressive.

They went after Ohtani with no plan B. They went after Soto and decided that actually paying him was expensive (while not signing Vladdy first). They went after Sasaki and acquired extra pool money for no reason.

Now, they will likely pivot to some combination of Piveta and Santander/Alonso and call this offseason a success.

They’ve bungled the Guerrero extension so bad that free agents are probably wondering if signing here is a good idea if the face of the franchise leaves next year. Shatkins is overwhelmed and overmatched.

That’s fair but you’re talking about one off season. Last off season was a let down, no question. This off season isn’t over and there are still a lot of good players on the board. Everyone wants results in an industry like this but most people are ready to jump on the bandwagon wagon. It’s hysteria on here.

People liked the Kikuchi deal and generally disliked every other deal.
I wouldn’t say. If I recall most people on here were happy with the trade deadline.

At this point who said they have? Social media? If they re-sign Him is it an issue?

And stop assuming. We don’t know anything.

Toronto got more for Kikuchi than Halladay. The problem is that Loperfido is the 2nd best prospect they acquired and everyone after him projects as a platoon or backup at best.

I think the hate on here and on twitter is crazy.

Do I think Atkins should’ve been fired after this season? Yes. The state of the roster and the farm system, given the resources they’ve been provided is not acceptable. Add to that the ridiculous Berrios situation from the playoffs the year, in which the FO was either involved or irresponsible for not holding Schneider accountable. No question I would’ve liked to move on from Atkins.

That said, the amount of villainizing that’s going on here is insane. Two days ago we were all excited about the possibility of adding Sasaki. Now Sharkins are idiots for even trying? Sure, pulling the trigger on the Straw trade early looks awful in retrospect. But my biggest complaint with these guys is their lack of urgency that seems to have them in on everyone but rarely closing the deal. This was a home run swing…and whiff. Do we know they didn’t have some assurances from Sasaki’s camp at the time? Do we know they didn’t get screwed over? Was Cleveland pressuring them to take the deal now or never and they didn’t want to risk losing Sasaki?

We don’t really know anything. Everyone just rants with the narrative that they are idiots.

I’m actually encouraged that they are continuing to take big swings to really get this thing turned around.

As for Vladdy, there’s still time. If they were the idiots described here, they’d probably just have given Vlad what he asked for from the jump. It’s called a negotiation. What if they save $50M off that asking price by actually negotiating?

I’m hoping they continue to spend to build a winner. It’s Rogers money, not mine. They just invested 100’s of millions on the stadium and raised prices aggressively. This isn’t the time for a rebuild. Get Vlad signed. Add some talent around him and put an entertaining product on the field.

Personally I’d still rather they bring in a new front office, but it’s not happening mid offseason guys. And certainly not because we’re upset that they took. Big swing and miss.

If we weren’t going after the big fish I’m sure the complaints would be just as loud.

Let’s see how they finish the offseason. Get a real big bat, add to the staff and let’s see what we can do.

And let’s not pretend these guys are completely incompetent. They’ve made some big whiffs. Last offseason was horrible, but they did get to the postseason a couple of times. It could be worse.

Lmao. Why am I trolling? Cause I don’t agree with what people are saying? Let’s be real. Most people on here are just bitching because management hasnt done what they want. Get over yourself. Be an adult and stop whining. Would you rather I just join the masses and started complaining? What about when they signed Ryu or Springer or Gausman or Bassitt. Do those signing matter or were they incompetent? Or the flavour of the month.

Did he know who to go after when he signed Ryu, Springer, Gausman or Bassitt?
How many playoff victories did those signings lead to? The leafs have been through 3 GM’s in the same time span because they could only win 1 playoff round. The Jays have won less playoff games than the Leafs have rounds.
How about this season when he had a good trade deadline? Or should we forget about that?
Now this may be an unpopular opinion on my part. I wasn’t nearly as impressed by our trade deadline as everyone else seemed to be. Sure they probably were able to extract sold value in a vacuum but most of the prospects they acquired were lower ceiling guys close to ready for the show.
I would have preferred they prioritized higher ceiling’s that were farther away even if that ment taking on more bust potential. A lot of the guys they picked up will be MLB players but I don’t see tonnes of star potential there.

You know people are capable of forming their own opinions. I’m not mad because social media says I should be or because we missed on 3 high profile FAs.
I’m pissed because this management group took a team full of young talented players and turned it into an old overpaid team lacking in talent with no prospects. And have had zero playoff success to show for it.

To be fair, they've been underperforming even compared to the worst posts here.

KK (redundant because of Varsho), IKF (redundant because of Clement/Espinal), Vogelbach (actually inferior to Horwitz) made 20M last year. That's the same as Chapman or Teo's year. Or, that could have been Manea and Pham.
And for some reason they looked at those last 2 seasons with 2 elite defensive CFs that can’t hit and said yes give me more of that so traded for Straw.

We all know Straw was just a bad contract we took for the IFA money in an effort to land Roki. Obviously a miserable fail in retrospect, but let’s not pretend they actually wanted Straw.

And with Varsho out to start the year, we may even get a month of value out of him for that *cough* $12M.

That's assuming that he makes it onto the 40 man. He might not.

Clase and Loperfido might be better options for that spot anyway.

Good for you. Not everyone has that capability.

What reason do we have to think this front office doesn’t love the idea of adding Straw?
The last 2 years we had 2 guys in the OF with elite D that can’t hit. Now that KK retired they found another one. They seem to like this setup even if the fans don’t.

If all they wanted was bonus pool money they could have waited till Sasaki committed like the Dodgers did.

I think Clase and Loperfido are better options, I just am not convinced Shatkins sees things the same way. We spent the last 2 seasons with the best defensive CF in baseball starting in LF because we also had KK who was probably the second best.
It was idiotic roster building then just like it would be now. They even had an out with KK going to FA and chose to double down on it by resigning him after they saw how it went the first time. Why shouldn’t we think they are ready to triple down on it now if they can’t get Santander.

Well common sense for one. They also assigned him to AA today. If you take off your hate blinders you might just see it

Common sense would have been not to resign KK last year and run with him and Varsho.
What did this management group do?

So am I the one with hate blinders or do you have rose coloured glasses.
Bottom 10 finish last year, bottom 10 prospect pool, top 10 payroll, and zero playoff victories since 2016. Yeah these guy totally deserve the benefit of the doubt
