If I had never watched a Wild game before and turned this Wild game on I would have thought Chisholm was head and shoulders the best d man on the roster in this game. His passing / passing creativity and break out abilities in this game were insane. I think people forget he is only 23. I can see him developing into a Soucy/Scandella level player who anchors an elite 3rd unit or is a good second D on a second d pairing

I think the actual problem is Zucc. They need someone who can drive possession and/or use their speed to create space. I might try Johansson.
Well, 24 years old. 25 a week from Sunday. I agree though, he's been getting better and better as he's played more games for the Wild. I think he's going to be a middle pairing keeper.

I was high on him from his 1st game. Unpolished but solely based on his rapid, direct puck movement on the PP it was clear the talent is there. Winnipeg didn't rot him down on the bench for 3/4 of a season for nothing. Guys legit. I'd run him on PP1 before Leaf and probably before faber as well at this point. They HAVE to move the puck fast.....he's the best option to do that currently.

I agree on this (although I like Faber on the PP too). I was mostly impressed by his creativity, aggressiveness, and hands in how he managed space and found players tape to tape on the breakout and even making stretch passes and things like that. He was able to creatively use his skating and hands to make fore checkers back off and create space for himself and then was making really decisive and aggressive decisions to find guys up the ice. I also like his shot/one-timer and ability to walk the blue line and change angles. Faber is generally good at doing these things too, but Chisholm was better than Faber at this last night. These skills are probably the most important offensive skills for a d man. I get that he's a little bit inconsistent at times as a defender but again we don't need him to be top pairing guy... if he was as good at Faber as cutting off space as a defender that's a top 4 defender.

I 100% want Chisholm around for the long-term. This is an incredible find.

The options of the Wild regarding top6 are thin, even when everyone is healthy. MaJo or Zucc wouldn't get an almost guaranteed top6 spot elsewhere. The Problem is no one on our current bottom six does have the potential to be more than bottom 6 players at NHL level - there is no competition for top six roles on our current team:

Hartman: Was a great asset to this team, 1-2 years ago. Solid bottom 6 guy who could handle minutes in the top6 too when injuries happen. Unfortunately Has played like a buy-out candidate so far this season.

Foligno: At this point if his career a solid physical presence at Wilds bottom 6, but nothing more.

Freddy: Career-grinder and depth guy for the bottom 6, there is nothing more

Trenin: Are u kidding me? I wouldn't be that mad about him if his cap wouldn't be so expensive though.

Khus: The final vote on him is not in yet. I like his game and speed, but it's doubtful that he could ever crack a top6 role in the NHL.

All the other bottom 6 players on our current roster are AHL players at best.

They gonna need to solve that problem next year, when prospects like Yurov/Ohgren/Heidt are ready for NHL hockey. Not all of them can play in our top6 right away, so I hope they make room for them in the bottom6 as well.

This team is a playoff team at the moment because of the awesomeness of Gus, Kap & Faber. The buyout-hell lasts for another year, but the management has some hard decisions to make beginning now. They have to find the right pieces to get those three as far as possible.
