Do we need any more proof that George was a cancer and dragging this team down even beyond his horrible goaltending? Look at the joy in this moment. CMac did the right thing firing him to the moon. The price to correct the problem was a bit high but for a cup contender nearing window's end it was the right thing to do.
As somebody who has lost family to "Big C" , I think "cancer" to describe AG is a little strong. I never like throwing that word around if I don't have to.
I think Georgiev was - is - just weird. An oddball. A little anti-social. Maybe wound a little too tight. Not a bad human being, he just didn't fit in. He knew he didn't fit in, the team knew he didn't fit in, the team knew that
he knew he didn't fit in, . . . it just wasn't right. Unfortunately Justus is kinda cut from the same cloth. Just a little odd. And the team tended to play very tight in front of both.
Adios.
MacSakic knew they couldn't wait around, so they pulled the trigger. I don't think the price was too high at all. Kovalenko is a good player. But probably not top 6. There are a a slew of Kovalenkos out there, and if that's what is needed later, I'm sure the TDL will provide. Frankly I'm a little stunned the Sharks didn't hang on to Blackwood for a bit longer - that guy's price was gonna skyrocket by the TDL. The resume is only one game long, but the I think maybe the Avs stole Blackwood. Big, fast, mobile - and likeable - goalies are like Wonka Golden Tickets. But it sounds like the Avs and Sharks management get along and maybe we got a "Friends and Family" discount. Who knows.
For now, the Avs no longer have a goalie problem. Which is quite refreshing.
