Getting a point is good, but they needed two considering how well Gus played and that they left the other point on the table last night
Meh, missing Ek, B2B with travel and shooting last night and early game. I'm good with getting the point.

The d-corps looked more stable today than they have the first 2 games.

The bottom-6 is just invisible.

Gus looked solid.

Yeah, for sure, but these are the types of weekend you look back on at the end of the season when you're a few points short of making the playoffs. Could have realistically been a four point weekend, even with those factors you listed, but it's only two.

Bad
-Kaprizov: tired & sloppy
-Zuccarello: floats in D zone
-Bogosian

Horrible
-Ohgren: looked like he had 4 shots of espresso. No hands at all. Good motor though

Good
-Gaudreau: Good feet and along the wall defensively
-Faber
-Brodin
-Lauko

Excellent
-Gustavsson
-Foligno: best forward tonight. Beast in the neutral zone

I like the Marat-Foligno pair on the 3rd line. Nice forechecking unit.

Team speed increase is notable with Lauko, Marat & Trenin.

Yeah bottom six was supposed to be new and improved, but they provide almost nothing. Fourth line is a fourth line so you don't expect anything from them. Foligno and Trenin need to be much better to play on the third line. They're playing like fourth liners so far.

Trenin looks awful. Would rather have Duhaime for half the cost and term. Lauko hasn't looked like much when playing against real NHL'ers. I don't mind Marat, and he is only 20 odd games into his NHL career, so I am giving him a pass.

A lot of mediocrity on this team, including the coach. We'll see if he can get them out of this underwhelming start, but seeing a team whit the exact same problems as last year is disturbing.

Winning 60% of his faceoffs through three games too. Really do hope he develops some more offense, because he could be a great 3C.

It's the (basically) same team as last year. So, the expectation for me was just more of the same.

Trenin doesn’t even look like an nhler to me. I have no idea what he’s supposed to be bringing. Is he good at locker room pranks or something tangible?

The bright side is that Guerin should be on the hot seat if they continue to struggle.

He's safe until the end of the season. There isn't anything a new GM could really do at this point in the season. No cap and too many unmovable contracts for any changes to really happen with the on-ice product.

4 points in 3 games. Team speed and physicality is better. I think Trenin and Lauko help with that. Last year we get steamrolled by the Jets in that scenario and last night we skated with them and held our own physically.

I am mostly worried about Fleury and the PK. And about what do with Zucc 5v5. Kap has to do way too much extra work when they are together. But I don’t know where you can put Zucc that he won’t hurt you.

I've missed the past two games. Does the team look decent? Or does it feel like we're in for a long season?

Last night was a slog. That isn't surprising though it was an early season back-to-back, full OT in the first game, with travel, and missing JEE.

The d-corps did look better last night at least. Gus looked solid, MAF looked done. The bottom-6 has been invisible and PK isn't good.

I would say they look decent, already off to a bit of a questionable start in the health department, but the top young guys and core players have shown well enough to be optimistic and there have been at least moments where the depth has shown better than most of last season, though consistency and impact hasn't been felt much. Still questions at the same key positions, missing a top 6 Wing, and D depth could be problematic if Spurgeon isn't healthy again.

Gus at least has looked good. Kaprizov has scored decently but definitely not playing to his best at the moment, Zucc has been pretty good to start, but the line with Rossi has struggled with possession in their own zone.

Boldy looks great, Faber and Brodin look great, Bogo and Merrill have been solid and exceeded my expectations. Middleton and Spurgeon have been the weak links on D, and Fleury was very borderline in his only start.

I feel more optimistic about this team than last season, but a trade or two would be needed before I say they are definitively a good team.

I feel differently. I think this team will struggle to make the playoffs. I am unimpressed with Hynes ability to get the team ready for the season, and fix the issues from last year. If he continues to play MAF while he kills games for us then i will be even less impressed. There are no saviors in the minors, so I don't see a way out.

I’m right there with you. And when they miss the playoffs it will be interesting to see what 97 does

One good thing, so far, for me, is that Rossi looks good. Not great, but good. Still not fast, but seems to have gotten a little stronger again. Looks like a legit top 6'er. Not sure if playing him with Kap and Zucc, making for a sub 5'10" line, is the way to go, but he is the least of our problems right now.

Rossi seems to be meshing with Kap a little more than usual. Still way off but there’s glimpses there.

Faber while being solid defensively hasn’t shown me the flashes of offensive brilliance he had before. I’m sure it will come but it’s a bit disjointed right now.

Basically there are some things to be optimistic about but what I really am looking forward to is Buium and Yurov
