He wasn't mad himself, he was mad at his team that left him out to dry on that one particular goal.

That's a shit look when you're consistently giving up bad goals and your team doesn't show you up.
If we're being honest with ourselves, he's been left out to dry many times this year. That was not an isolated incident. Our D has been good at limiting opportunities as a whole, but when they do break down, they are leaving the goalies little to no chance.

George has been giving up bad goals, absolutely, but it doesn't mean he can't be frustrated when others shit the bed in front of him. Rail on him for his poor play, not on him showing his emotions out there. It shows he cares, and he's not checked out.

How can you be a goalie on a contender in the top league in the world and not get angry seeing this happen over and over again? We already know Georgie will show his frustration at times and blow a fuse. This first quarter of the season has been aggravating in many ways and the team has made it worse by making lots of terrible decisions and constantly getting pinned in their own zone. I can't defend Georgie's play, but the occasional eruption is understandable the way the same things keep happening over and over. Also, he was the only player who showed any emotion at all last night. The whole team should be screaming and shouting after that pitiful showing.

They're despondent from the never ending sub-900 goaltending circus they've had to play in front of for going on 5 years now. Georgiev is getting emotional because even he is aware of how tenuous of a grasp he has on an NHL career at this point.

I completely disagree with this.

Sure, he can be frustrated with the play of his teammates. But at the same time, you keep that shit to yourself. And the reason he should keep it to himself is because he’s paying just as poorly. You can’t criticize others for the same things that you aren’t doing. If Georgiev was playing well and just getting let down by his teammates, sure, vent. But when he’s letting in shit goals all the time, goals on the first 2 or 3 shots, weak goals, etc, you don’t complain. You keep it quiet until you’ve demonstrated you’re doing your own job before complaining about others.

He can erupt. But do it privately.

That's fine, I am cool with someone not liking his antics. But I will say that for one, we don't really know why he blew up - he might have been mad at the give away, or he might have just been pissed to be scored on again, or he could have been mad at himself. He's definitely done this before and I don't think it was a big deal to anyone here. I am just glad someone was demonstratively pissed, even if it was a goalie in a glass house.

While I'm here, goalie interference has jumped the shark. I don't see why Tampa's goal last night was fine but Drouin's was disallowed last week.

Problem is, the team only rallies around and supports him when he constantly, constantly, constantly shits the bed behind them

If everybody slammed their sticks around everytime Georgiev let another puck trickle through him for absolutely no reason at all, there'd be no sticks left on the team

Guy can get as emotional as he wants but the team hasn't left him out to dry nearly as much as he has let them down first. And by first, as we all know, its often even the first shot on goal

Put your own f***in pants on George

It just seems to point to Georgiev's rather fragile mental state, whether it's blowups like this or him smacking Malinski in the leg or stretches of play where he simply can't stop anything, I'm just over the antics. Goalies are rather erratic by nature but he's on a whole other level.

Yeah and we are stuck with him for now. I hope there’s a way out of the situation this season, time’s a wastin’. And again, I would have forgiven anyone on the team last night for breaking something or throwing a fit, that’s really why it didn’t bother me. If my wife hadn’t been sleeping I’d probably have broken something. I’ve never felt worse about the Avs watching a game.

Yeah 100% agree. If he’s just mad at himself, no issues from me whatsoever.

As a goalie, if I haven’t been playing well for a few games, or been letting in bad goals, I’m VERY VERY careful of how I speak to teammates. Getting angry at them or voicing displeasure is a very easy way to get them pissed off at you.

My alternate theory on why he’s so mad is that he’s been reading Aarif Dean’s articles on CHN where he consistently refers to him as “the russian netminder.”

The stats simply prove this isn't the case. By all advanced metrics posted throughout this thread and others George is simply a shitty goalie that gives up way more than expected.

All goalies get left out to dry multiple times a game. Difference is other goalies find a way to bail the team out more often than not because it's their job to make a clutch save. George rarely does this.

Hell even with as bad as we played we had 2 scenarios where we got point blank changes, one was on Makar 10ft out, because Tampa f***ed up, Vasi just made the save so no harm no foul so to speak.

The guy sucks and is in no place to be pitching a fit about some bad defense.

The stats say it is not true that he's been hung out to dry many times? But also all goalies get hung out to dry? So has he or not?

Look, no one is defending George's play, it has, aside from a few outliers, stunk like rat shit all year.

But just because he's not been great doesn't mean he should have to bottle up all his emotions in a fraught and stressful environment. You don't have to earn the right to be pissed off. "Sorry, George you didn't bank your pre-requisite Pissed Off credits yet, keep it to yourself" Human emotions don't work like that.

As I said earlier, of all the things for people to get up in arms about, him getting pissed off should be pretty low on the list. It feels like people are just so angry with him they'll pick at anything and everything he does. If he didn't get pissed off it would be that he doesn't care and is checked out. He ordered a chicken sandwich from Chick Fil A instead of the clearly superior Popeyes version? How dare he.

I find it an odd thing to get angry about. Emotions come out when they come out. But we can agree to disagree here.

Either way, if he doesn't figure his shit out soon he's likely done in this league. That's a pretty stressful environment he finds himself, rightfully, in.

I can kinda understand Georgiev throwing fits. To go from being at the top of the league in the first year of a short contract to playing yourself out of one at the end of it. I'm not saying it's right but that has to be hard to make peace with if you're already an emotional roller coaster kind of guy.

Exactly. He is playing himself out of the NHL instead of signing a huge contract. Total downfall.

I am not an avs or lightning fan but watched the game - I get why Georgiev was frustrated because the breakdowns were atrocious. He’s been put into the game cold to try and create a spark after a couple of bad Annunen goals and the defense just craps the bed.

I honestly don’t know how he was supposed to save any of the 3 goals he let in.

As soon as I saw CDH was in the lineup I knew better than to stay awake for the late night Altitude airing. Watching him play and listening to the broadcast is too much to endure right before a family gathering.

Reading this bad boy, tells me I made the right choice

I’m still pissed about that. You don’t scratch a guy in Kylington who is looking like a good fit and just played his best guy for a guy who can’t defend and takes a half hour to wind up a shot

Ya but the Lightnings expected goals for wasn't that high so the team is off the hook apparently.

Eh, even though it came on the heels of a shorthanded 2-on-1 I did not like the first goal he gave up. Toews played that well (which is great because Avs defensemen have been so distrustful of the goalies that they try like hell to prevent the pass, which almost never works) and forced a somewhat bad-angled shot that Georgiev easily sees coming. Despite that, his horrendous rebound control still manages to serve the puck right up to Glendening who pots it with ease. I mean, why even bother playing the 2-on-1 properly if your goalie is going to give the other guy the puck anyway?

He simply cannot do that, no. He needs to either eat that f***ing puck or steer the rebound AWAY. Not what he did there, but then again it's not the first time he's coughed up a puck in the worst possible spot.

The other goals, yeah, he didn't really have a shot at. But that one, despite the lackluster power play and resulting turnover that led to it, he simply played that horribly.
