I remember that....didn't we make into December in 1st place that year? Could be wrong, but I recall playing Chicago, and then the wheels just blew the heck off.
Yeah, there was some stat being tossed around at Thanksgiving about how a team that'd been 1st in the NHL by that holiday had never missed the playoffs (or something like that), and then by Christmas we were still one of the top teams in the league, if not THE top team. All the PDO guys were saying stuff like "the Wild are being sustained by extremely unsustainable shooting%, they're an aberration" and nonsense like that. I then blacked out for 6 months and can't remember anything from that time in my life.

Gaudreau, after a slow start, is looking terrific. Seems to be playing freely, and with confidence. Foligno also had a good game, as did Hartman. Brodin was a boss. I think he really gets up for the Oilers.

JEE had a great screen on Boldy's goal- it wouldn't have gone it w/o it. Still, i think he's a bit off. Think he's still hurt a bit. Spurge also with a clumsy game. His timing and decision making, which is usually really good, is off. I'm hoping it's the long layoff, and not something physical.

Refs seemed to miss a few calls against us. There was a blatant high stick against Boldy, and a tripping call on a delayed call. I can't make my mind up about the hit on Kap... you can argue either way.

Yup that was the game Kane stopped the puck going forward in the SO and NHL said they weren’t enforcing that rule anymore I believe

Good to see others stepping up. Talk about secondary scoring, Freddy.

Kaprizov, do you miss Zucc?

all i can say about the hit or knee on knee to kaprizov is what would oilers fans and media be saying if that happened to draisaitl or mcdavid? atleast we got some secondary scoring. good win.

Rossi has been a hot topic on the board and other sites as well. Nobody really knows why he is scrutinized the way he is. He seems to bounce around the lineup a lot which is both a testament to his flexibility as him getting into Hynes' doghouse a little bit. He is not really given big offensive or defensive roles if it isn't absolutely necessary at the moment.
Over 70% of his 5v5 ice time is with Kaprizov. If that’s not being given an offensive role, then I don’t know what an offensive role is.

It’s interesting to watch some of the crowd (not you, but others) that said this past summer that Kaprizov-Eriksson Ek-Boldy needs to be our top line then flip to Rossi needs to be attached to Kaprizov at all times and are quite displeased now that they put Kaprizov-Eriksson Ek-Boldy back together.

Instead of looking at it like Rossi was demoted or in the doghouse, how about people look at it like the coaching staff trusts Rossi to carry the 2nd line similar to how Boldy has carried it in the past. Just a thought.

Somewhere in time
You misunderstood me: "big offensive or defensive roles if it isn't absolutely necessary" - he got the spot on the first line but got moved as soon as something in the lineup changed due to injury. Also he is never out there at the end of games, on the first PP even if it struggles or players are missing AND he is never even tried on the PK even though it struggles. Think he last played PK under Evason. For me those situations show that you are given responsibility and that the coach trusts your ability to get the result he wants. I also said I liked the 2nd line he is on now as he works very well there. For me it is not necessarily the linemates but more what situations he is allowed to play in and this definetly could be better.

Playing with Kap and Zucc is just where he got put because they need a player there and he took the opportunity during camp and ran with it at the start of the season. Players were (mostly) healthy and the team was winning. Changed pretty quickly.

So in light of this it is pretty hard to see this as a clear positive. Add all the noise around Rossi and yeah...it is just irritating at times. BUT the team is winning and the last one to complain - I am sure - is Rossi. He is not that kind of guy at all.
