Another poor outing. Sub 900sv% now. The NHL is a tough league for a goaltender to break into.
Do you say that based on watching stats or actual hockey? The goals against Askaraov were 2 break away's (I would like to have seen him stop at least one), a one timer on the PP off an east-west pass through the slot that never should have been allowed, and a flukey mis-direction after a shot which he had no chance on. The Shark's D was atrocious last night and Askarov got fed to the wolves, so hard to objectively call it a poor outing by him.

Askarov, since being sent back down to the AHL, has really struggled (judging by the numbers only)…

Can anyone shed some light on what’s going on?

The Barracuda has struggled a bit recently and I’m starting to think it’s likely because John McCarthy is just not a good coach. Maybe it’s just one of those things that teams have to get through and overcome, even good teams have that happen, but if they don’t figure it out soon, I think fingers start being pointed at the coaching staff.

Watching him in a few stints in the NHL with SJS this year and I definitely this guy can steal games on a regular basis. He's got an unflappable swagger to him, almost sealing off any mental weaknesses. It seems he welcomes challenges, a big positive for a young goaltender to have on top of the immense talent he possesses
