G Trey Augustine - Michigan State, NCAA (2023, 41st, DET)

He was mediocre in the gold medal game. 2 bad goals and outplayed by Rimpinen. If the Finns didn't fan or miss the net on a lot of their scoring chances things would likely be different.
Or, the USA was completely dominant the last 60% of the game, and Finland was lucky to even get to overtime.

Yeah, he was kinda mediocre today, but in a game he wasn't seeing the puck well he battled well enough to give his team a chance. Closed the door the last 40 or so minutes when one more would've been it.

And then you look at the overall picture (like the below), and it really says a lot about what he's accomplishing. He's been the starting goaltender at 5 major IIHF tournaments for the USA since he was U17, and his team hasn't finished worse than Bronze, and has three gold medals. Has also played (well) at the Mens Worlds in that span and has the WJC record for most wins by a goaltender (now two above everyone else).

And pile on top of that his NTDP records and how well he's played his first two years at MSU. He looks like a future NHL star. Might take 5 years (that's the nature of the position), but he'll be a top 10 goaltender in the NHL. Everything he's accomplished suggests so.

Incredible achievement backstopping the US to two straight gold medals. Imo this is far more impressive for a goalie than a skater because of how small the margin of error is. Hard not to get optimistic about what this guy can be as a pro.

Cool, you can have a "mediocre" game when you have a resume like his and you're also still good enough to win gold.

If he retired tomorrow, he's probably going into the USA's hockey hall of Fame already.

A nice thing about Augustine is a lot of goalie prospects don't have their mental toughness tested young. Augustine has by far the most high pressure games before turning pro for a goalie prospects that's come around for a long time and the guy is ice cold
