LOL I was going to make a thread too. Saved me some time!

Yes, he should have been drafted last year. He was absolutely sparkling in the T-birds playoff run.

Proof that even the best NHL teams will miss on obvious choices. Don't even get me started on the Canucks who drafted Young instead of Milic.

I was looking for one, and was surprised there wasn't!

Teams definitely won't pass on him this year. Could be an early 2nd rounder at this point.

Potential late 1st if he takes Seattle on another successful playoff run.

He's actually a free agent. He'll be 20 by the draft.

2021 was an easy year to miss him. But no reason why he was missed last year.

This guy is playing great. Solid all around and making the big time saves when needed.

you sure on that? i remember brett leason being 20 by the draft in 2019, and he was still eligible in year 3

To be eligible, players must be 18 years old by Sept. 15 and under 20 years old by Dec. 31 in the draft year. However, non-North American players over 20 years old are eligible. North American players who go undrafted by age 20 are considered to be unrestricted free agents (UFAs). All non-North Americans MUST be drafted before they can sign an NHL contract, despite their age.

That's from NHL.com, unless Milic is some sort of exception.

these rules are always confusing. wouldn't milic be 19 as of dec 31 "in the draft year"? he turns 20 in april

Not shocked at all. Look at the stats and technique of some of the shorter goalies vs the taller ones with more attention. In almost every case the shorter goalies are having better results. I really don't understand why people really think it wouldn't translate to the NHL. It was the same way with players, but has been changing with guys like Debrincat, Caufield etc, but goalies have to break multiple records or dominate at a level that's almost unmatched to get drafted if they're under 6'1.

It’s because almost no goalies under 6’1” are able to hold down an NHL starter role anymore.

For example, this year every team has played 36-40 games, so let’s say 18+ games played is a starter. 30 goalies have played 18+ games, while only one, Saros, is under 6’1”.

Last year, 30 goalies who played half+ the games, just two under 6’1” (Saros and Nedjelkovic). The year before, 27 goalies played half+ the games, again just two under 6’1” (Saros and Khudobin).

So the reason ppl are doubtful that sub 6’1” goalies will be able to translate their game to the NHL is because they nearly always do fail to translate. You have to be an extreme outlier to make it as an NHL starter if you’re under 6’1”, there’s only 1-2 such goalies per year.

I get your logic, but if 99% of the goalies drafted are 6'1+ then you're already picking from a bias stat pool. Of course you won't have starters under 6'1 or 6'2 if you don't pick goalies under those heights, but it might be a chicken or the egg type of thing. Ultimately though, if someone has performed at every other level, why assume they can't at the next just because their peers are a couple inches taller. Seems strange to me. If you look at the goalies dominating in most of the league's outside the NHL, many of them would be "too small" to get any NHL scouts attention.

He was passed over in 2 drafts wasn't he ? Just sign him as a FA

Somebody will draft him, but there’s no way he goes in the top-60.

It's typical to see 2-3 goalies in the top 60.

Michael Hrabal and Carson Bjarnason are probably higher on most lists.

But I wouldn't completely rule out Milic. His resume makes him feel like more of a sure thing than rolling the dice on a less experienced goalie.

I'm not a goalie expert, and they're all voodoo.

Not to be pedantic, but pretty much every other article on the web says he is a free agent.

His birthday is in April, so I'm guessing he can sign a free agent contract on his birthday once he is 20?
The way I've always understood is that you're eligible for the draft in your draft year, D+1 year, and your D+2 year.

Milic is in his D+2 year.

So how do you find the needle in the haystack? Very low odds that any one short goalie will be successful. I could see this as an argument to fill your farm system with un-drafted goalies.. maybe.

I’m
Seattle is unstoppable right now.

Outscoring opponents 42-4 in their last 7 games, never allowing more than 1 goal in a game. Yeah, 3 of those games were against Victoria but still.

One of the most dominant junior teams I've ever seen.

What I like seeing is guys like lambert/ Guenther / Dach working to get their teammates involved, doing all the grinding work (scrappin/killing penalties etc)
